Handstand
Handstands, often called a balance on the hands, involve maintaining the body vertically while supported by the hands. A discipline found in gymnastics, dance, and circus arts, it relies on body alignment, control of the center of gravity, and the ability to distribute weight between the shoulders, wrists, and fingers.
The technique combines strength (shoulders, core), mobility (wrists, shoulders), and proprioception: hand placement, squeezing the shoulder blades together, core engagement, and micro-adjustments of the fingers for stability. Minimal equipment is required (a flat floor, mat, or wall for support to begin); the difficulty ranges from beginner level (supports against a wall) to advanced moves (free balance, transitions, and dynamic variations). Progression involves technical stages, strengthening exercises, stretching, and control exercises, with gradual learning to minimize risks.
