After making a lasting impression with his 2025 performance at the Sirque de Nexon with the show Instable, Nicolas Fraiseau returns to the big top at the 2026 Multi-Pistes Festival with IGNIS, the new creation from Collectif Sismique. A true ode to fire, this contemporary circus piece offers a captivating encounter between a clown and flames, where poetry, humor, and wonder intertwine in an extraordinary visual and sensory experience.

At the center of the ring, there is almost nothing. A clown, a few objects, and a single match. From this tiny spark, an entire world gradually emerges. The fire appears timidly, grows, dances, transforms, and eventually fills the space. Sometimes fragile, sometimes awe-inspiring, it becomes a true partner in the performance. Nicolas Fraiseau doesn't seek to dominate it, but to tame it. He approaches it with curiosity, brushes against it clumsily, is amused by it, sometimes wary of it, before gradually discovering the unique language of this living material.

In this encounter, as funny as it is poignant, the clown shares with the audience the universal fascination that fire has always held for humanity. From the smallest glimmers to the most consuming flames, they awaken our earliest memories. They evoke the first hearths, the stories told around a fire, the rituals, the legends, and that raw beauty that captivates as much as it awes. IGNIS thus brings us back to something essential, profoundly archaic and universal, where the simplicity of a flame is enough to inspire wonder.

The show alternates between moments of tension, bursts of laughter, and moments of contemplation. With few words, Nicolas Fraiseau creates a constant dialogue with fire through the language of the body, clowning, and circus arts. Each appearance of the flames becomes a surprise. Every movement seems improvised, yet it is based on remarkable technical mastery. The audience witnesses a continuous dance between man and this unpredictable element, where the slightest gesture can evoke an emotion, a smile, or a moment of pure magic.

True to the spirit of Collectif Sismique, IGNIS prioritizes poetry over technical virtuosity. The show never seeks feats of daring for their own sake; it uses fire as a genuine artistic language capable of expressing fragility, curiosity, humor, doubt, and wonder. This sensitive approach allows both children and adults to experience multiple levels of interpretation. Younger audiences will be captivated by the flames and the farcical situations, while adults will find in this relationship with fire images deeply rooted in our collective memory.

Created in 2025, IGNIS is the result of a significant collaborative creative process. Nicolas Fraiseau conceived and performed the piece, working with Léa de Truchis (dramaturgy), Delphine Cottu (co-writing and actor direction), Servane Guittier (clown and circular perspective), Léo Lerus (choreographic perspective), Constance Bugnon (collaborative perspective), Pierre-Yves Chouin (technical direction), Lucille Gallard and Robert Benz (sound design), Ludwig Elouard (lighting design), Françoise Léger Pirus (costumes), and Catherine Manesse (visual design). The show is also supported by a large technical, administrative, and production team that facilitates its distribution.

The production benefited from the support of numerous major players in contemporary circus, including Archaos – National Circus Center of Marseille, CIRCA – National Circus Center of Auch, Le Sirque – National Circus Center of Nexon, Le Prato – Lille, La Cascade – Bourg-Saint-Andéol, Le PALC – Châlons-en-Champagne, Le Carré Magique – Lannion, La Brèche – Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Transversales – Verdun, Cirk'Éole – Montigny-lès-Metz, the National Circus School of Châtellerault, La CitéCirque de Bègles, Odysca, La Friche Gournay, L'Espace Périphérique – Parc de la Villette, La Martofacture, La Gare à Coulisses, Les Ateliers Médicis, Ay-Roop, Latitude 50 in Belgium, Tollhaus in Germany, Les SUBS in Lyon, as well as many others. networks and support mechanisms for contemporary circus.

The project was also a finalist in Circusnext 2024, a project co-financed by the European Union, winner of the SACD-Beaumarchais Circus Process 2023 and winner of the "Writing for the Circus" Artcena 2024 program. It also benefits from the support of the professional integration program of ENSATT, the Ardèche Department and the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Presented under a big top at the Château de Nexon Park on August 12, 13, and 15, 2026, as part of the Multi-Pistes Festival, IGNIS is a one-hour show suitable for ages 8 and up. Spectators are invited to experience an immersive performance where fire becomes a character in its own right, by turns playful, mysterious, untamed, and fascinating.

Please note: some scenes produce smoke that may be bothersome for people with asthma. This information should be taken into account before your visit.

Blending contemporary circus, clowning, fire manipulation, and visual poetry, IGNIS offers a moving journey that celebrates the primal beauty of flames and reminds us how they continue to nourish our collective imagination today. A spectacular, gentle, funny, contemplative, and profoundly human creation, it will appeal to circus enthusiasts as well as families seeking a unique artistic experience.
