With "Pour que les ailes tombent" (So That Wings Fall), director Sophia Perez presents a deeply committed creation where contemporary circus becomes a powerful space for encounter, listening, and dialogue. Presented by Compagnie Cabas, this 1 hour 10 minute show, suitable for ages 9 and up, invites the audience to reflect on how we live together and the richness that our differences represent.

For this new creation, Sophia Perez brings together on stage artists with diverse backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. Queer artists, artists of color, artists with disabilities, and artists from more privileged backgrounds make up a cast where each artist brings their own story, sensibility, and artistic language. The aim is never to confront these differences, but rather to foster dialogue between them in order to create a shared space based on listening, cooperation, and solidarity.

The performance draws on the concept of intersectionality, which highlights how different forms of discrimination can intersect and intertwine. But beyond this reflection, "Pour que les ailes tombent" (So That Wings Fall) primarily champions the convergence of struggles, the empowerment of each individual, and the possibility of building a more just collective future. It is about freeing ourselves from fears, prejudices, and paralyzing mechanisms in order to move forward together with compassion and without violence.

On stage, this reflection comes to life through a particularly rich artistic language. Circus disciplines blend with contemporary dance, acrobatic lifts, aerial apparatus, theatrical performance, singing, live music, and French Sign Language. Several languages also coexist throughout the performance, including French, Arabic, Ewe, and Portuguese, reinforcing the desire to open the show to a plurality of cultures and sensibilities.

The set design showcases an impressive aerial apparatus around which the artists move. Spectacular acrobatics are interwoven with more intimate moments, all underscored by an original musical composition by Colombine Jacquemont, choreography by Karine Noël, and extensive lighting and set design by Victor Munoz, Thomas Reudet, and Devenir ASBL. The costumes, created by Maïlis Martinsse, also contribute to the show's visual identity.

Through a succession of poetic, sensitive, and sometimes powerfully physical scenes, "Pour que les ailes tombent" (So That Wings Fall) seeks to evoke emotion, provoke thought, and foster compassion. The performance gradually forges a link between individuals, communities, and cultures, reminding us that cooperation is a force capable of transforming our societies.

This creation is also a significant event for Compagnie Cabas, as it is being presented for the first time after several periods of artistic residencies in France and Belgium. It is fully in line with the company's approach, which for several years has been developing a socially engaged, accessible, and profoundly human circus.

The show is performed by Lili Dufour, Pierre-Lucas Benoît, Marie Lamothe, Joseph Adando Kodjo, Zephyr, Antonio Arbues, and Chems Amrouche, under the direction of Sophia Perez. The dramaturgical perspective is provided by Isabelle Voizeux, the production is directed by Maude Tornare, and the production administration is handled by Béatrice Alexandre.

Presented at the Cirque Jules Verne – Pôle National Cirque Amiens, Pour que les ailes tombent (So That Wings Fall) appeals to both contemporary circus enthusiasts and anyone wishing to discover a sensitive, generous, and resolutely human-centered artistic work. More than just a show, it is a true invitation to see others differently, to celebrate diversity, and to imagine together a world where differences become an asset rather than a barrier.
