From October 20 to 24, 2026, La Compagnie des Algues offers the residential workshop "From Attention Comes Intention," led by Arthur Anguilla, at Les Zatypiks in Salvagnac, Tarn. Open to all levels, this intensive 35-hour workshop is for artists, actors, clowns, improvisers, or simply anyone wishing to explore clowning through a sensitive, physical approach deeply rooted in the present moment.

More than just technical training, "From Attention Comes Intention" is designed as a true laboratory of exploration where listening, openness, and spontaneity become the driving forces of performance. Arthur Anguilla invites participants to relinquish control in order to rediscover an authentic presence on stage. Here, the goal is not to construct a character or replicate formulas, but to dare to be surprised, to embrace the unexpected, and to transform each moment into living, breathing experience.

The workshop is based on a constant search for sincerity. Participants are guided to develop a keen awareness of themselves, their fellow performers, and their surroundings. The workshop encourages them to explore contrasts, pauses, and breaks in rhythm, and to embrace the possibility of voluntarily losing themselves, because it is often in these moments of uncertainty that the most authentic and moving experiences emerge.

Particular attention is paid to eye contact, the quality of presence, and the ability to be truly present in the moment. The goal is not to be interesting or perform well, but to cultivate a genuine curiosity about our surroundings, allowing the clown and their world to emerge naturally.

Improvisation plays a central role throughout the training. The exercises encourage participants to engage with the absurd, to embrace unexpected events as gifts, and to transform each unforeseen occurrence into a creative opportunity. Participants also explore different qualities of movement and new forms of embodiment, starting from the body and the environment in order to maintain a constantly renewed sense of wonder.

Arthur Anguilla's teaching methods draw inspiration from the work of Michel Dallaire, Éric Blouet, Michael Chekhov, and other approaches within contemporary theatre. This diverse range of influences informs his work, where technique always serves presence, listening, and authenticity.

The spirit of the workshop is summed up by a simple yet essential philosophy: there is nothing to achieve, only experiences to be lived. Nothing to fear, everything to try. Understanding comes not only from intellectual analysis but primarily from the body, sensations, and direct experience. This approach creates a supportive working environment where everyone can experiment without judgment and progress at their own pace.

Training days generally run from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a two-hour lunch break; some sessions may be extended depending on group dynamics and ongoing explorations.

The training course is organized as a residential program with full board, allowing for total immersion over five days. Participants are accommodated directly at the training venue, Les Zatypiks, in Salvagnac. Meals are prepared by Micheline, who adapts her cooking to different dietary requirements so that everyone can fully enjoy their stay.

Offered at a price of €375 (including VAT), the workshop includes 35 hours of training, on-site accommodation, and full board. No other funding is available. The training is conducted in French and welcomes participants of all levels, whether they are new to clowning or wish to deepen their artistic practice.
