About the Astrojax and the first instructions

About the Astrojax:

The Astrojax looks like a futuristic game but in reality it is a simple yoyo-like toy with a mix of diabolo, bilboquet and lasso.

An astrojax is a piece of string with three balls attached to it. Two balls are attached to the ends of the rope, and the third swings freely between the other two along the rope.

It's a game accessible to all. It only takes ten minutes to learn but years to master.

Basic instructions:

1. Hold the end balls in one hand each and let the third hang down, this forms a V.

2. Drop a ball, which allows the Astrojax to launch. Slightly lift the hand still holding a ball, this will create a swing (for beginners, it is best to use your dominant hand).

3. Move the ball in your hand up and down or in a circle and watch the astrojax follow your movements. Don't swing your arm or your Astrojax balls will change course.

4. Once this movement has been acquired, give free rein to the balls for a spectacular visual effect.

A bit of history:

This toy was invented by a physics student, Larry Shaw in 1987. He first experimented with this game with nuts and dental floss, and 2 years later and many prototypes, came the final product, the Astrojax.
It was first launched 5 years later as "orbit balls" and won several awards in the toy market during the 90s.

The Astrojax was part of NASA's "Toys In Space" program in 2002 and has three categories in the Guinness Book of Records.
