Chapter I - The Golden Rule

Responsive OR Irresponsive?

This is THE most important concept to understand before buying a modern yo-yo. There are currently two main types of yo-yos:

1. The Responsive Yoyo (For a gentle start)
This is the classic yo-yo that everyone knows. You throw it, it spins at the bottom (it "sleeps"), and a simple little flick of the hand makes it go back up . It's perfect for learning the basics, like the German brands Henrys (Lizard, Viper) which are very well-known for their comfort thanks to their rubber shells.

2. The Irresponsive Yo-yo (For modern figures)
This is the professional's yo-yo. Its ball bearing is wider. As a result, you can give it as many swings as you want, the yo-yo will never spring back up on its own! It will spin at the end of the string for minutes on end, giving you time to create complex patterns. To make it spring back up, you need to use a specific technique called the "Bind."

⭐ The Magic Yoyo K1 Spin Yoyo

The main drawback when starting out with modern yo-yos (style 1A) is that the best models are made of metal. The problem is that a metal yo-yo thrown roughly by a beginner will hit the ground and break (or damage your tiles!). That's where the K1 Spin comes in.

Made from ultra-durable ABS plastic , it has all the features of a professional metal yo-yo, but it absorbs shocks without flinching. Even better: it comes with two interchangeable axles . You can start in "Responsive" mode, then install the large bearing to transform it into an "Irresponsive" monster!

  • Perfect Template Weight 60g, diameter 57mm. Extra wide "Butterfly" shape for easy catching of the yo-yo on the string.
  • Hubstacks included It has small caps on the sides: you can grab the yo-yo by the sides while it's spinning at full speed!
  • Evolutive (2 in 1) Narrow bearing included (for the yo-yo to bounce back) AND wide size C 10 ball bearing (for unresponsive tricks).

👉 At an affordable price, this is the absolute yo-yo to put in the hands of a child (from 8 years old) or a demanding adult who wants to discover the modern yo-yo.

The Essential Tutorial

📺 How to master the K1 (and the famous "Bind")

Don't be scared by an unresponsive yo-yo! In this video, we explain absolutely everything: how to adjust the length of your string (from your navel to the ground), how to change the bearing, and most importantly, how to perform the famous "Bind" to force the yo-yo back up into your hand.

The 5 Modern Playing Styles
The Professionals' Glossary

From 1A to 5A: Choose your subject

In world yo-yo competitions, players compete in 5 distinct categories. Here's a breakdown of the jargon:

Style 1A

The classic "String Trick"

This is the most widespread style in the world. A single, unresponsive yo-yo (like the K1 Spin) with a very flared (butterfly) shape is used. The goal is to create complex patterns by sliding and bouncing the yo-yo along the segments of the string.

Style 2A

The Loop (With two hands)

Extremely fast-paced and spectacular! Two responsive yo-yos with a very tight shape are used. The yo-yos never stop, creating continuous loops at incredible speed. The Henrys Tiger Snake or Coral Snake models are excellent for this.

Style 3A

The Double 1A

Take the complexity of 1A, and multiply it by two! The player uses two unresponsive yo-yos at the same time, and weaves incredible figures where the two strings intertwine without ever getting tangled (well, in theory...).

Style 4A

Offstring

The yo-yo is physically gigantic, made of very bouncy plastic, and isn't attached to a string ! You throw it in the air, it falls back down, and you catch it on the string like you would with a diabolo. Very impressive on stage.

Style 5A

Freehand (Counterweight)

The string is no longer attached to your finger! Instead, a small counterweight (like a die) is attached to the end of the string. The juggler releases the string in the air and plays with gravity between the yo-yo on one end and the counterweight on the other.
