Acro Sway Duo is a movement arts company and teaching organization based in the Bordeaux metropolitan area. Founded by Clémentine and Alexis, it offers specialized classes and workshops in acroyoga, acrobatic lifts, handstands, Cyr wheel, and contemporary dance. Its teaching combines technique, movement, creativity, and artistic exploration, catering to all levels from beginner to advanced.
Acro Sway Duo is a professional circus and dance company based in the Bordeaux region. Created in January 2019 by Clémentine and Alexis, it jointly develops an activity of artistic creation , performance , teaching and transmission of the movement arts .
The two artists first met in 2016. Upon returning from New Zealand, Clémentine met Alexis during a handstand class. Their complementary backgrounds gradually led them to develop a collaborative work at the intersection of circus arts , contemporary dance , and acrobatic lifts .
Alexis is a circus artist trained at the Bordeaux Circus School . A multidisciplinary circus performer, he particularly develops the Cyr wheel , acrobatic lifts, balances, unicycle and juggling.
Clémentine is a contemporary dancer and state-certified dance teacher. Her work combines contemporary dance, partnering, acroyoga, and acrobatic lifts. She brings to the project an approach centered on movement, the relationship with the partner, and choreographic writing.
This complementarity constitutes the educational identity of Acro Sway Duo today.
The teaching offered differs from that of a general circus school. The courses are essentially built around specialized disciplines: acroyoga , partnering and acrobatic lifts , hand balances and contemporary dance .
Partnering provides a space for research centered on working in pairs or groups. Participants explore lifts, weight transfers, counterweights, and momentum, drawing on principles from contact improvisation. The goal is to connect the technical aspects of acrobatic lifts with the fluidity of dance movement.
Acroyoga also plays an important role. A course dedicated to the fundamentals allows beginners and practitioners with less than a year of experience to acquire the necessary basics for a progressive and safe practice.
For advanced practitioners, an Acroyoga Flow course develops more complex sequences combining flows , washing machines , icariens , whips , inversions and original transitions.
Handstands are another major focus. The class is accessible to different levels and combines warm-up, physical strengthening, technique, postural work, body alignment, inversions and transitions.
Contemporary dance complements this offering. It allows participants to work on the technical foundations of the discipline while developing their artistic and creative qualities. Floorwork, contact improvisation, and acrobatic influences enrich this approach to movement.
In addition to weekly classes, Acro Sway Duo develops a particularly important program of internships and immersions.
The Cyr wheel is the subject of specific workshops led by Alexis. Accessible to different levels, these workshops allow participants to discover this apparatus as well as to delve deeper into its figures, techniques, and manipulations.
Intensive acroyoga weekends are also organised. They combine technique, play, movement and free practice around flows , washing machines , pops , whips , hand-to-hand and transitions.
For intermediate and advanced practitioners, Acro Sway Duo also develops immersive multi-day programs . These retreats allow participants to delve deeper into lifts and acroyoga while placing significant emphasis on research, creativity, and group practice.
The transmission of knowledge goes beyond the framework of regular classes. Clémentine and Alexis also offer customized instruction and work with various amateur and professional audiences.
They notably conduct circus arts initiations in schools, allowing younger audiences to discover their disciplines, even though Acro Sway Duo's weekly classes are mainly geared towards an adult audience.
Alongside teaching, Acro Sway Duo pursues a genuine professional activity of creation and distribution .
His shows develop a physical language at the crossroads of circus, dance and theatre. Acrobatic lifts, Cyr wheel, juggling and dance movement become tools of stage writing.
The company thus develops a unique identity in which technical practice is never completely separated from movement, relationship with partner and artistic creation.
Acro Sway Duo is therefore less a general circus school than a specialized teaching place particularly interesting for older teenagers, adults and practitioners wishing to deepen their knowledge of acroyoga, acrobatic lifts, hand balances, Cyr wheel and practices situated at the intersection of circus and dance.
