Aerial Silk Banjaluka is an aerial circus school located in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Founded in late 2022 by artist and teacher Zvjezdana Dervić , it specializes in teaching aerial silks, aerial hoop, and acrobatic dance techniques in suspension.

The school offers regular courses for children and adults, with an approach that combines physical preparation, technical learning, creativity and artistic expression.

Participants gradually discover the different possibilities offered by aerial apparatus, from the first suspension exercises to the creation of choreographic sequences.

Aerial Silk Banjaluka develops a pedagogy based on individual progression, understanding of movements and the pleasure of practicing.

A school created by Zvjezdana Dervić

Aerial Silk Banjaluka was born from the experience of Zvjezdana Dervić, an artist specializing in aerial disciplines.

She discovered aerial silks in Italy in 2009, during an introductory session organized in a town near Lake Garda.

Already familiar with climbing, she then possessed some experience in working at height and in exercises requiring strength.

This first discovery marks the beginning of an artistic journey dedicated to aerial arts.

Over the years, she has developed her technical skills, participated in shows and gained teaching experience.

After several years spent in Italy, she decided to pass on her passion to Banja Luka by creating a specialized school.

The project allows residents to discover a discipline that combines the physical qualities of acrobatics with the expressive dimension of dance.

An international artistic experience

Before developing her school in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zvjezdana Dervić performed in various artistic events in Italy.

His career includes participation in festivals and cultural events in Rome , Venice , Trento , Brescia , Rovereto , Salò and several other cities.

She has notably presented performances at the Battiti Festival, the Circo per l'ambiente Festival in Venice, the Strabilio Festival and other events dedicated to the performing arts.

She also participated in traditional circus performances.

These experiences allowed him to explore different ways of presenting aerial disciplines, from street performances to stage shows.

This knowledge of live performance enriches his teaching and his approach to choreographic creation.

Specialized training in aerial disciplines

Zvjezdana Dervić holds an Italian national qualification as an aerial acrobatics instructor, specializing in aerial silks and hoop.

She also taught at the Officina Dàdà acrobatics school in the province of Brescia, as well as at the Aquilone center in the province of Mantua.

Her experience includes mentoring young female athletes engaged in advanced training programs.

In particular, she coached a competitive team made up of girls aged 11 to 18 .

This experience allowed him to develop a teaching method combining technical rigor, creativity and attention to safety.

She continues to deepen her knowledge in the fields of acrobatics, movement and physical preparation.

Aerial fabric

Aerial fabric, locally called ples na svili , constitutes the historical discipline of the school.

This practice involves creating figures and movements on long strips of fabric suspended at a height.

Participants learn techniques for climbing, suspending, wrapping and holding the body.

Learning begins with exercises to familiarize oneself with the apparatus and to develop the necessary physical abilities.

Students gradually learn to control their movements, maintain different positions, and perform transitions.

Aerial silks requires strength , coordination , flexibility and concentration .

It also has an important artistic dimension, since the movements can be combined with music to create choreographies.

The aerial hoop

Aerial hoop is also one of the disciplines offered by Aerial Silk Banjaluka.

This suspended circular apparatus allows for the performance of balance figures, acrobatic positions and choreographic sequences.

Participants learn how to position themselves on the hoop, control their center of gravity, and gradually move from one position to another.

The practice develops strength, stability, and body control.

It also requires particular attention to the precision of movements and points of support.

Aerial hoop offers numerous possibilities for expression, thanks to the combination of static positions and fluid movements.

It constitutes a complementary discipline to aerial silks.

A progressive physical preparation

The training sessions place a significant emphasis on physical preparation.

Participants work on the muscle groups needed for hangs, climbs, and aerial maneuvers.

The exercises help to develop strength, mobility, coordination and stability.

Learning is based on a progression adapted to each individual's level.

Students first learn the basic techniques before tackling more demanding movements.

This approach helps to build the skills necessary for a mastered practice.

Physical preparation also provides a way to better understand the mechanisms of movement and the demands of aerial disciplines.

Safety at the heart of education

Safety plays a crucial role in Zvjezdana Dervić's pedagogy.

Aerial disciplines require precise knowledge of movements, points of support, and individual physical capabilities.

The teacher prioritizes understanding techniques rather than seeking immediate results.

Participants learn to identify the steps necessary to create a figure.

They gradually develop their confidence and their ability to control their movements.

This approach encourages patience, concentration, and regularity in practice.

Courses accessible to beginners

Aerial Silk Banjaluka welcomes people who are discovering aerial arts for the first time.

No prior experience is necessary to begin the introductory courses.

The first sessions allow participants to become familiar with the equipment, learn the fundamental positions and develop the skills necessary for the exercises.

Participants gradually discover the sensations of suspension and the movements performed at height.

Teaching is adapted to individual abilities.

This approach allows beginners to gain confidence and progress at their own pace.

Each student can discover the techniques at their own pace and participate in the life of the group.

A first performance by the young students

In December 2025 , the first group of children from the school presented a public performance after several months of training.

This experience allowed the young participants to showcase the moves and sequences they had learned during the sessions.

The show combined technical work, creativity and stage expression.

The students also benefited from the support of more experienced practitioners, particularly for artistic preparation and organization.

This performance was an important step in the group's development.

It allowed the children to discover the pleasure of sharing their work with an audience.

Choreographic creation

Aerial dance combines acrobatic techniques with music and body expression.

Aerial Silk Banjaluka gives significant importance to this artistic dimension.

Students learn to connect different shapes and construct movement sequences.

They can work on rhythm, movement, and the relationship between gestures and music.

Choreographic creation allows for the development of imagination and personal expression.

It also encourages participants to discover their own style.

The goal is to gradually transform learned techniques into expressive movements.

Developing self-confidence

Learning aerial disciplines represents a personal challenge for many participants.

The first exercises may require overcoming certain apprehensions related to height, strength or coordination.

Progress allows one to discover new abilities and strengthen self-confidence.

Each mastered move represents an important step.

The school encourages students to recognize their progress and to persevere in the face of difficulties.

This approach values effort, patience, and the pleasure of succeeding.

A community of practitioners

Aerial Silk Banjaluka develops a collective environment in which students share their passion for aerial arts.

The training sessions promote exchanges, mutual aid and support.

More experienced practitioners can mentor new students and share their experiences.

Public performances are also important moments in the life of the group.

This collective atmosphere helps to create positive relationships between participants.

The school values cooperation and the pleasure of progressing together.

Additional acrobatics workshops

In addition to regular silk and hoop classes, Aerial Silk Banjaluka hosts activities dedicated to other acrobatic practices.

In December 2025, the school notably organised an acrobalance workshop with a speaker from Belgrade.

Acrobalance is based on performing balances and lifts between several partners.

This discipline helps develop coordination, communication and mutual trust.

The supplementary workshops offer students the opportunity to discover other forms of movement and enrich their practice.
