Le Fil d'Ariane is a non-profit circus school located in Saint-Cannat , in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, between Aix-en-Provence and Salon-de-Provence. Its project is distinguished by a profoundly educational and social conception of circus arts: the association does not only wish to transmit techniques, but to use the circus as a tool for personal development , encounters , culture and building social bonds .
Since 2015, this philosophy has been structured around the " A Circus for All " project. Le Fil d'Ariane claims its belonging to the popular education movement and defends a circus capable of welcoming differences, promoting free thought , curiosity , creativity , mutual aid , tolerance and empathy .
The association seeks to connect three dimensions: educational, social, and cultural. Each participant is considered in their uniqueness, and the activities are designed to welcome extremely diverse audiences: children, families, teenagers, adults, seniors, people with disabilities, hospitalized individuals, people under the jurisdiction of the courts, or those facing various forms of exclusion.
The 2026-2027 weekly classes take place on Wednesdays at the Seigneurie Gymnasium in Saint-Cannat. Practice begins as early as age 2 with a parent-child workshop. It continues with different progressive groups: 4-5 year olds, 6-7 year olds, 8-9 year olds, 10-12 year olds, and 13-15 year olds. An open practice area is also available for adults.
The teaching is multidisciplinary. Students discover object balancing, object manipulation and juggling, ground acrobatics and aerial disciplines. Technical work is combined with activities promoting teamwork, mutual support and observation.
The 2026-2027 season notably marks the return of a significant aerial arts program. The school officially announces aerial silks, trapeze, rope, aerial hoop, and aerial straps. Its curriculum also includes Chinese pole among the disciplines offered.
Technical training remains linked to educational objectives. The sessions allow participants to develop self-esteem, perseverance, concentration, dexterity, body awareness, and calculated risk-taking. Cooperation and safety also play a central role: learning to practice involves learning to observe, help, and trust others.
The family aspect is particularly emphasized. Le Fil d'Ariane aims to involve families in its activities and offers parent-child workshops for children as young as two, circus and parenting projects, as well as intergenerational gatherings. The association also works with very young children.
In nurseries, activities can begin as early as 6 months of age. Circus arts then become a means of sensory and motor development, of discovering the body, objects and space.
Le Fil d'Ariane also develops a significant arts and cultural education program. The association works in primary, middle, and high schools and can develop projects with institutions based on the target audiences and educational objectives.
Its activities extend far beyond the school environment. The school also works with families practicing home education, leisure centers, and various educational and cultural stakeholders in the area.
Adapted circus arts are another major focus of the project. Le Fil d'Ariane works with various organizations that support people with disabilities, including specialized educational institutions (IME), residential care facilities (FAM), and sheltered workshops (ESAT). The association is also a member of RECEO, the Network of Extraordinary Circus Schools, dedicated to developing circus arts practices for people with specific needs.
The school clearly states that the practice can be adapted for people with reduced mobility and, more generally, that the diversity of circus arts makes it possible to build situations corresponding to the abilities and needs of the participants.
This inclusive approach extends to healthcare facilities. Le Fil d'Ariane works in hospitals and also develops programs for elderly people in nursing homes.
The association also has particularly valuable experience working with individuals under the jurisdiction of the courts. Interventions in prisons are explicitly integrated into its mission and are still mentioned in its 2026 professional recruitment guidelines.
This diversity of audiences makes Fil d'Ariane a true community circus school. The association travels and builds partnerships with local authorities, institutions, and other organizations to make circus arts accessible to people who might not otherwise attend a traditional circus school.
The workshops complement the weekly classes. Le Fil d'Ariane organizes several types of programs: introduction to circus arts for teenagers and adults, projects combining culture and encounters, circus and parenting, as well as workshops blending circus arts and magic.
Magic plays a unique role in the project. The association develops specific activities around this art and organizes workshops in close-up magic. Card magic, mentalism, manipulation, theater, physical expression, and psychology can then complement the circus disciplines.
Le Fil d'Ariane also develops "Les soirées du Mugdu" (The Muggle Evenings), events dedicated to magic and its culture. This openness helps give the school an identity that goes beyond the sole framework of traditional circus classes.
Creation and engagement with live performance also play an important role. Students present their work at events organized by the association and meet professional artists from various disciplines.
For several years, Le Fil d'Ariane notably organized Le Festoche – a relaxed, local festival. In 2026, this event evolved thanks to a strengthened partnership with the City of Saint-Cannat to become " La Belle Récré fait son cirque!" (The Beautiful Recreation Hall Puts on a Circus! ).
The first edition in this new format took place on July 3 and 4, 2026 at the Jardin Richaud in Saint-Cannat. It combined circus, music, magic, shows for young audiences and all audiences, large wooden games, bookshop, food and end-of-year show by the children of Fil d'Ariane.
The program also featured acrobatics, hand-to-hand balancing, freerunning, street clowning, and various professional performances. The event thus served as a direct extension of the educational project: the children attending the school developed within an environment where amateur practice, professional performance, community involvement, and local culture converged.
Le Fil d'Ariane also has a strong intergenerational dimension. From early learning in nurseries for children as young as 6 months to interventions in nursing homes, the association uses circus arts with audiences covering virtually all stages of life.
This diversity is reflected in his conception of the circus as a " school of connection ." Artistic practice is used to build trust, foster solidarity, enable encounters between different people, and contribute to social diversity.
The association belongs to the French Federation of Circus Schools and to FREC Méditerranée. It is also a member of the Ligue de l'enseignement 13 and the RECEO network dedicated to adapted circus.
It also benefits from the Youth and Popular Education accreditation n°13-20-JEP 267 , a recognition consistent with the central place given to popular education in its project.
The teaching team is composed of instructors trained in circus arts education, notably those holding the BPJEPS Circus Activities qualification and the BIAC qualification . The association was still recruiting in 2026 for a teacher responsible for both weekly classes and workshops in schools, nurseries, special education institutions, nursing homes, and prisons.
For the 2026-2027 season, the school is therefore pursuing a particularly broad project: parent-child classes, practice for children and teenagers, free adult training, return of aerial disciplines, internships, magic, adapted circus, school activities, early childhood, disability, health, seniors and prison environment.
Le Fil d'Ariane is therefore much more than a leisure school. In Saint-Cannat and the surrounding areas, the association uses circus arts as a genuine tool for education, culture and social development.
His project " A Circus for All " perfectly summarizes this identity: enabling people of different ages, origins, social situations and abilities to meet around movement, creativity and live performance, while developing confidence, autonomy, curiosity, mutual support and the pleasure of practicing together.
