Artematta ASD is an association and circus school located in Moncigoli, in the municipality of Fivizzano, in the heart of the Lunigiana in Tuscany .

For more than ten years, the association has been developing a project dedicated to promoting circus arts to children, teenagers and adults.

Its objective is to promote cultural, sporting and personal development through the learning of different circus techniques .

Artematta offers an approach to the circus that is playful , technical , creative and collective .

The founders and the Nanirossi company

The school is closely linked to Elena Fresch and Matteo Mazzei , the two professional artists who form the Nanirossi company.

Both have extensive experience in contemporary circus and street performance .

They notably trained at the former Scuola di Cirko in Turin before continuing their studies with various teachers and institutions in Italy and abroad.

They focused particularly on duo acrobatics and mano a mano.

This professional experience directly informs the educational project developed with Artematta.

The courses and subjects taught

The courses are now organized in a room located inside the Agriturismo La Praduscella , in Moncigoli di Fivizzano.

The school welcomes children , teenagers and adults alike.

The practice is multidisciplinary .

Ground acrobatics

Ground acrobatics is one of the fundamentals.

It helps to develop coordination , mobility , strength and body awareness .

Vertical lines can also be addressed.

Aerial acrobatics

Aerial acrobatics is another important part of the training.

Aerial silks are among the disciplines practiced at the school.

The trapeze is also documented in the general presentation of Artematta.

Juggling

Juggling is another key element of the course.

It helps to develop coordination , precision , concentration and creativity in the manipulation of objects.

Balancing act

Balancing acts complement this multidisciplinary approach.

Stilt walking is one of the techniques explicitly practiced in recent courses.

The clown and the theatre

Clowning and theatre are also integrated into the work.

This dimension makes it possible to link technical learning to personal expression and stage presence .

Circus is therefore not viewed solely as a physical activity.

It also becomes a means of expression and creation .

A fun, inclusive and collective school

The school seeks to create a fun and inclusive environment.

Participants can experiment with different techniques to discover their own abilities and preferences.

Technical progress is associated with values of respect , trust , and collaboration .

Group practice thus occupies an important place.

Students learn to work with others.

They gradually develop their trust in the group.

Certain disciplines, such as acrobalance and mano a mano , make this relationship particularly important.

Internships and meetings with external artists

Artematta also organizes specific workshops dedicated to duo acrobatics .

External artists and companies may participate in these training programs.

The Nanirossi company notably runs workshops around acrobalance , mano a mano and human pyramids .

These training courses can be for beginners or advanced practitioners.

They can also be intended for teachers wishing to deepen their knowledge of circus techniques.

Security is an important component of this transmission.

Participants learn not only the movements but also the methods to continue their progress in an autonomous and reasoned manner.

A national network of schools and structures

This openness to teacher training is interesting for understanding Artematta's role.

The association does not function solely as a place where a few classes are offered each week.

It also seeks to create encounters between practitioners, teachers and artists.

Over the years, Artematta has collaborated with many Italian circus organizations.

These exchanges involved schools and spaces such as Bolla di Sapone in Trento, Spazio Kabum in Varese, Mantica in Grosseto, Circoplà in Serra de' Conti or Terzo Tempo Ululì in Milan.

Links also existed with Cirko Vertigo in Turin.

This networking allows students and teachers to stay in touch with a wider circus environment.

Artematta also participates in circus school gatherings .

Internships and meetings allow you to discover other methods and practices.

Events, festivals and live entertainment

The association also develops events .

In particular, she organised festivals and events dedicated to street arts .

Circovagando offered outdoor theatre.

Borgomatto and Borgomatto On Tour were other projects developed over the years.

These activities create a link between learning and live performance .

The close relationship with the Nanirossi company naturally reinforces this dimension.

Elena Fresch and Matteo Mazzei have worked professionally in show business since the early 2000s.

Their creations combine acrobatics , clowning , physical theatre and interaction with the audience .

Artematta's students therefore evolve in an environment directly linked to the profession of artist .

An amateur practice school, open to all

However, the school itself remains an amateur practice structure.

The courses are open to people wishing to discover the circus or develop their skills without any mandatory professional objective.

Adults also have access to regular classes.

They can practice several techniques in a logic that is both artistic and physical .

The practice helps to develop strength , coordination , flexibility and balance while maintaining an important playful dimension.

This intergenerational openness is an interesting characteristic of Artematta.

The association has also developed family circus events.

Parents and children can thus discover different circus techniques together.

These encounters notably use acrobatics and circus games to create a shared experience.

A school rooted in the Lunigiana region

The Artematta project also has an important territorial dimension.

Lunigiana is a rural and mountainous territory far from major Italian cities.

The presence of a permanent circus school in Fivizzano therefore makes it possible to offer a cultural and sporting activity that is relatively rare in this area.

Children in the area can discover circus arts without having to go to a big city.

Adults also have a space for regular practice.

The school thus creates a small local Circassian community .

Recent prices confirm this continuity.

Children and teenagers have regular sessions in the late afternoon.

Older teenagers and adults can practice in the evening.

Ground acrobatics , aerial acrobatics , balancing , stilt walking , juggling , clowning and theatre are among the techniques practiced.

This offer shows that the school remains truly multidisciplinary .

The relationship to limits and fears

The educational project also highlights the relationship to limits and fears .

Some circus situations require gradually accepting an unusual difficulty.

The student learns to identify what is causing them problems.

He can then experiment and progress in a safe environment.

This approach contributes to the development of self-confidence .

Success is not solely defined by mastering a technique.

It also lies in the ability to try , understand , persevere and work with others .

Artematta for the NetJuggler directory

According to the NetJuggler directory, Artematta is therefore a true amateur circus school in Lunigiana.

  • She has a regular activity .
  • It welcomes children , teenagers and adults .
  • She teaches several major branches of circus arts .
  • She benefits from the experience of professional artists .
  • It also organizes workshops , meetings and events .
  • Its rural location finally gives it a particularly interesting territorial role.

Artematta thus makes it possible to maintain a regular circus practice in a sector where the offer would otherwise be much more limited, while maintaining links with a wider network of schools, artists and structures of contemporary Italian circus.
