Amateur circus school in North Cotentin offering children and teenagers the opportunity to discover and practice many circus disciplines.
The Barba'Sousa Circus School is an amateur circus school located in Équeurdreville-Hainneville, in the municipality of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, in the Manche department. It primarily welcomes children and teenagers wishing to discover the circus arts, develop their skills or deepen their knowledge of certain disciplines in a group setting.
The teaching is organized progressively , taking into account the age and experience of the participants. Younger students can thus discover the different branches of circus arts, while more experienced students have the opportunity to delve deeper into the techniques and disciplines that particularly appeal to them.
The workshops allow participants to explore a wide range of circus arts practices:
The sessions combine physical preparation, warm-up, technical learning, experimentation, and practice time. The goal is to allow everyone to progress at their own pace while developing qualities specific to circus arts.
Throughout the year, participants are also encouraged to reflect on the artistic dimension of their practice. Learning is therefore not limited to the execution of technical skills: students gradually discover how to use their acquired knowledge to create acts and present them to an audience. The season's work culminates in an end-of-year show, allowing the young circus artists to share the results of their training.
For the 2026-2027 season, Barba'Sousa offers several groups divided by age range, with workshops designed for:
This organization allows the exercises, the pace of the sessions and the educational objectives to be adapted to the development and experience of the participants.
The school's management is notably provided by Thibaut De Sousa , director and instructor holding the BIAC qualification, and Romy Chausseray , artistic director and instructor holding the BPJEPS Circus Activities qualification. Both are also accredited by the French Ministry of Education.
Installed under a big top at the Jean Jaurès stadium in Équeurdreville-Hainneville, the Barba'Sousa Circus School thus participates in the discovery and transmission of circus arts to young audiences in the North Cotentin, by combining technical learning, collective practice and artistic creation.
