The Beauraing Circus School offers children and teenagers a progressive and multidisciplinary introduction to circus arts. Juggling, diabolo, plate spinning, unicycling, acrobatics, stagecraft, and aerial disciplines allow everyone to develop coordination, balance, creativity, and artistic expression. The school also offers workshops and is expanding its offerings to include silks, trapeze, and aerial hoop, now with classes also available for adults.
The Beauraing Circus School is an association dedicated to learning and discovering circus arts, located in Beauraing in the province of Namur.
The school primarily welcomes children and teenagers and organizes its regular classes on Wednesday afternoons . Groups are divided by age in order to adapt the duration, content and progression of activities to the abilities of the participants.
The youngest children currently start from age 6. A first group is dedicated to 6-7 year olds , before continuing with 8-11 year olds and then with teenagers from age 12 .
The groups, deliberately limited to around fifteen participants , allow for appropriate supervision and offer each person genuine progress.
The teaching is multidisciplinary. Students are therefore not confined to a single specialty but gradually discover several major families of circus arts.
Juggling is one of the techniques taught and helps develop coordination, concentration, precision and perseverance.
Chinese plates and diabolo complement the manipulation work. These disciplines allow for a playful approach to the coordination between gaze, hands and body movement.
Unicycling is also integrated into the activities. Learning to ride one requires developing dynamic balance, coordination and perseverance before gradually achieving greater independence in movement.
Acrobatic gymnastics, on the other hand, allows participants to explore acrobatic and teamwork. They learn to better understand their bodies while discovering exercises where cooperation and trust between partners become essential.
The school also includes stage activities. Circus training is therefore not limited to technical achievement: the skills acquired can gradually be used in an approach of expression and presentation before an audience.
In recent years, the Beauraing Circus School has also significantly developed its offering dedicated to aerial disciplines .
Aerial silks is now among the activities offered. This discipline combines strength, flexibility, coordination and artistic expression, and allows for the exploration of a different relationship to movement and space.
Workshops are also available to discover or further develop skills in trapeze and aerial hoop . These disciplines complement the aerial silks and progressively strengthen the school's aerial arts program.
This development also concerns adults . After having organised an introductory course specifically for adults, the school has decided to set up a real regular aerial silks course from September 2026 .
This course is accessible to both beginners and those with some prior experience. Everyone can therefore progress at their own pace throughout the year.
The Beauraing Circus School also organizes workshops during school holidays . These allow for more intensive exploration of certain disciplines or the creation of links with other artistic practices.
In 2026, a workshop for teenagers combines aerial circus and dance. Silks, trapeze and hoop meet contemporary dance, hip-hop and jazz.
This association between circus technique, movement and artistic expression clearly illustrates the desire not to limit the circus to a simple physical activity.
The structure is relatively recent in its current legal form: the Beauraing Circus School was officially established as a non-profit organization in 2024 , with cultural education as its main activity.
She is also an associate member of Fédécirque , the network that brings together schools and educational structures for circus arts in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
The Beauraing Circus School thus offers an attractive option for amateur circus practice in the south of the province of Namur. Its teaching combines traditional disciplines, acrobatics, unicycle, manipulation, stage work and recent developments in aerial disciplines.
With its courses for children and teenagers, its workshops and now its opening towards adult practice, the school is gradually developing a path allowing one to discover the circus arts and then to deepen certain techniques according to the desires and age of the practitioners.
