Founded in 1981, the Brussels Circus School is an organization entirely dedicated to teaching, practicing, and passing on the circus arts. Primarily located at the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels, it also has a branch in Saint-Gilles and develops various projects in several Brussels neighborhoods.

The school offers circus arts training adapted to many ages and levels, from early childhood to adults. Its program allows for both a first multidisciplinary introduction and in-depth study of a specific technique or the development of a full-fledged artistic project.

A creative and playful approach for children

For children, the overall learning of circus techniques is based on a creative, playful, and non-competitive approach. Imagination and experimentation play an important role in the sessions, allowing children to progress while developing their own creativity.

Younger children can discover the world of the circus through psychomotor and circus-based activities. The circus then becomes a tool for exploring the body, motor skills, and the relationship to space and others.

As they grow up, children can join multidisciplinary courses in which they gradually discover the main families of circus arts: acrobatics, juggling, balancing and aerial techniques .

Specialized courses

The offering then diversifies with numerous specialized courses. The Brussels Circus School notably offers courses in dynamic acrobatics, juggling, diabolo, tightrope walking, Chinese pole, aerial silks and trapeze.

Balance also plays an important role in learning, while movement and dance complement the more technical disciplines.

Towards a specialized practice in adolescence

From adolescence onwards, the teaching methods gradually evolve towards a more specialized practice. Young people can delve deeper into certain techniques while developing their creativity and their ability to present their work to an audience.

Several programs are dedicated to this creative dimension. The Croq' en Cirque program, for example, allows 9-12 year olds to participate in a genuine collective project combining circus techniques, music, movement and rhythm.

For the most dedicated young people, other programs allow them to develop personal artistic projects solo, in duos, trios, or small groups. Physical preparation, acrobatics, acting, movement, and creativity then complement the technical work.

The creations produced within the school can be presented to the public at cabarets, open days or performances organized outside.

Fundamental values

The Brussels Circus School's pedagogy is based on several fundamental values: personal growth, learning, creativity, enjoyment, respect, and commitment . Circus arts are viewed as a genuine tool for personal development, not simply as a set of technical performances.

An inclusive and social approach

The school also has a strong inclusive approach. People with disabilities or those requiring special support can be welcomed into the workshops after a preliminary discussion with the team.

Social cohesion projects are also being carried out in different neighborhoods. For example, the Maritime Neighborhood Circus offers children an accessible introduction to acrobatics, juggling, balancing and aerial techniques, while working on group cohesion, self-discovery and creativity.

Internships and professional training

In addition to weekly classes, the Brussels Circus School organizes numerous workshops during school holidays for children, teenagers and adults.

The institution also has a significant training mission. For over thirty years, it has offered teacher training programs designed to prepare future professionals in circus arts education. Students study methodology, didactics, group facilitation, creativity, and complete numerous practical internships.

With a particularly diverse offering, ranging from circus motor skills to specialized apparatus practice, including multidisciplinary workshops, artistic creation, social projects and professional training, the Brussels Circus School is a major player in circus arts education in Brussels .
