CZirkidz – International School of New Circus in Trutnov

CZirkidz is a new circus school located in Trutnov, in the northeast of the Czech Republic. Opened in 2024 , it was born from a collaboration between the UFFO cultural center and the South Australian Circus Centre , an Australian organization renowned for its circus arts education.

The school offers regular training for children, teenagers, and adults. Its educational program combines learning contemporary circus disciplines, developing physical abilities, and artistic creation.

A school open from early childhood

CZirkidz welcomes children from three years old in parent-child sessions. These classes allow children to discover movement, the first acrobatic exercises and the use of circus equipment in a playful environment.

From the age of four , children can join circus initiation groups. They discover the basics of juggling, gymnastics, duo acrobatics and aerial disciplines.

The goal is to develop coordination, balance, confidence and the enjoyment of participating in a group activity.

A multidisciplinary teaching

The foundational courses allow students to discover different families of disciplines before choosing a possible specialization.

The program includes juggling with balls, clubs, scarves and hoops, as well as hula-hoop exercises, gymnastics and mini-trampoline.

Participants also work on their mobility, strength, flexibility and coordination through adapted physical training.

Aerial disciplines

CZirkidz offers specialized instruction in aerial acrobatics .

  • Aerial fabric
  • The trapeze
  • The aerial hoop
  • The straps

The sessions teach suspension techniques, positions, and sequences specific to each apparatus. The exercises are adapted to the participants' experience levels, from beginners to more advanced practitioners.

Acrobatics in pairs and group work

Acrobatics in pairs is another specialty of the school.

Students learn to perform figures with a partner and to develop their coordination, balance and mutual trust.

The courses are open to individuals as well as participants wishing to practice as a couple or with a partner.

Group work plays an important role in the teaching, particularly through group acrobatics exercises.

A progression towards the stage

CZirkidz offers several learning levels to support students in their progress.

Experienced participants can join Cirk Company , an advanced group that combines technical development with preparation for public performance.

The school also develops CZirkidz Dance Company , a group intended for semi-professional artists selected by audition.

These programs allow young circus performers to discover the demands of stage creation, without constituting a higher education degree program.

An international pedagogy

The courses are led by professional artists with experience in performing and teaching.

Collaboration with the Australian circus sector is one of the main characteristics of CZirkidz.

Instruction is given in English , with translation into Czech when necessary. This arrangement allows students to work with international professionals while receiving language support.

Artistic workshops and encounters

In addition to weekly classes, CZirkidz organizes intensive workshops during the holidays.

These programs allow students to delve deeper into several disciplines and discover the process of creating an act or a show.

The school also maintains a link with Cirk-UFF , an international contemporary circus festival held in Trutnov. This allows students to discover professional artists and present their work in a cultural environment dedicated to circus arts.

A school focused on artistic development

CZirkidz aims to support students over several years, from initiation to advanced practice.

His teaching values technical progress, creativity, confidence and autonomy.

The presence of specialist groups and a semi-professional ensemble offers interesting prospects for young people wishing to deepen their involvement in circus arts.

Through its international partnership, regular courses and advanced training programs, CZirkidz contributes to the development of the new circus and the training of young artists in the Czech Republic.
