Circus Aarcus is a non-profit circus school located in Aarau , in the canton of Aargau , in German-speaking Switzerland .

Its name was born from the contraction of the words Circus and Aarau , illustrating its roots in the cultural and associative life of the city.

The association was founded in 2008 by Fabian Hossli Heinzer and Regula Heinzer , two enthusiasts wishing to develop a space dedicated to the discovery and transmission of circus arts to children and teenagers.

In 2015 , Blanca Böll took over the direction of the courses. Trained in circus pedagogy at the Jojo-Institut für Artistik und Theater in Germany, she also has experience as a clown and is involved in various school circus projects.

Circus Aarcus offers regular instruction accessible from the first year of primary school.

The classes are organized into several groups to allow children to gradually discover the different families of circus arts and to progress according to their experience.

Two groups are dedicated to beginners, while a third welcomes more advanced practitioners.

The subjects taught

Juggling

Juggling is one of the central disciplines of the teaching. Children learn to manipulate different objects, develop their coordination and gradually create individual or group figures.

The balances

Balance techniques also occupy an important place, including the discovery of the unicycle and various circus equipment.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics allows participants to explore the possibilities of their body, develop their mastery of movements and learn to perform figures in groups.

Human pyramids are one way to approach collective acrobatics while promoting mutual support and trust among students.

Clowning

Clowning complements this multidisciplinary teaching by introducing a theatrical, playful and expressive dimension.

Educational objectives

Through these different practices, Circus Aarcus seeks to simultaneously develop children's motor skills and social skills .

Learning circus skills thus becomes a way to work on balance , coordination , perseverance , creativity and cooperation .

The association places particular importance on the pleasure of practicing together and on the opportunity for each participant to discover several disciplines before developing their preferences.

Course organization

The weekly classes take place on Wednesday afternoons in the gymnasium of the Zeka center in Aarau.

They are currently coached by Sandro and Claudia Kaspar , who are also associated with the Zirkusschule Capriola .

Workshops and themed weekends

In addition to its regular teaching, Circus Aarcus organizes occasional workshops for both children and adults.

These interventions can be adapted to different events, including birthdays , association celebrations and local events .

The association has also developed themed weekends allowing participants to delve deeper into certain disciplines such as aerial silks, acrobatics, balances, juggling or clowning.

Shows and performances

Presenting to an audience is an integral part of its association's project.

Circus Aarcus organizes shows and participates in various cultural events in the Aarau region.

The students have had the opportunity to perform at local festivals , public events and performances in facilities housing elderly people .

In September 2024 , the association also organised several days of shows under a big top , bringing together children's circus, variety shows, clowns and music.

local collaborations

Circus Aarcus also participates in the local circus dynamic by collaborating with other players in the sector.

In June 2025 , the association notably partnered with the Zirkusschule Capriola to offer a free introduction to circus arts as part of the circus festival in Aarau.

This activity allowed children to freely discover juggling, balancing and acrobatics under the guidance of experienced educators.

With its weekly teaching, workshops open to different audiences, shows and local collaborations, Circus Aarcus constitutes an amateur circus school that is permanently established in the cultural landscape of Aarau .
