Circus Arts – MJC Saint-Galmier Leisure

The Saint-Galmier Loisirs Youth and Culture Center (MJC) offers weekly introductory circus arts workshops for children aged 5 to 10. Acrobatics, cartwheel, balancing, pedal boat, balance ball, juggling, and physical expression allow children to discover various circus disciplines in a sporty, fun, and artistic way. A short performance is presented to families at the end of the season.

The MJC Saint-Galmier Loisirs offers a weekly introductory activity to circus arts for children aged 5 to 10.

The workshop is led by Fabien , a circus arts teacher with many years of experience. It allows children to gradually discover different circus disciplines in a practice that the MJC (Youth and Culture Center) wants to be both sporty , fun and artistic .

The subjects covered

Acrobatics is one of the techniques covered during the sessions. The children experiment with different body movements and practice on the cartwheel .

An important place is also given to balance disciplines . Participants can try out different apparatus and objects such as the pedal boat and the balance ball .

Object manipulation and juggling complement this discovery. Children learn, in particular, to manipulate and juggle balls, while gradually developing their dexterity and coordination.

Body expression is also part of the activity. Learning is therefore not limited to the acquisition of techniques: children are also encouraged to use their bodies in a process of expression and creation .

The diversity of practices allows everyone to experience several facets of circus arts during the season and to progress gradually in the disciplines offered to them.

Course organization

The courses are organized into 25 sessions spread over the school year. They take place on Wednesdays in the late afternoon at the Longchamp room of the Saint-Galmier racecourse.

The practice also has a stage dimension since the learning done during the year culminates in the preparation of a small show presented to families at the end of the season.

This performance allows children to show their progress and discover another essential dimension of the circus: presenting to an audience the work built during the workshops.

The Saint-Galmier Leisure Centre

The MJC Saint-Galmier Loisirs is a local association created in 1971 and a member of the Loire MJC network. Throughout the year, it develops numerous cultural, artistic, sporting and leisure activities for children and adults.

Although it is not an independent circus school, its workshop provides a regular and structured introduction to circus arts in Saint-Galmier, with an interesting diversity of disciplines and a performance at the end of the year.
