Saga Circus — a non-profit circus school

Saga Cirque is a non-profit circus school founded in 2016 and primarily active in the Eure and Seine-Maritime departments of Normandy. The association offers regular classes, touring programs, and numerous projects developed in partnership with schools, institutions, and local authorities.

Regular classes

Regular classes are currently offered at the Conservatory of Music, Dance and Theatre in Val-de-Reuil, Léry and Poses . This collaboration allows Saga Cirque to integrate circus arts alongside music, dance and theatre within a multidisciplinary cultural facility.

The school currently welcomes children from the age of 7, as well as teenagers and adults. Two groups are offered on Monday evenings in Val-de-Reuil : 7-10 year olds and then practitioners from the age of 11 and adults .

Teaching and disciplines

  • The teaching is resolutely multidisciplinary .
  • Juggling includes, among other things, balls, diabolos, clubs and hula hoops.
  • Balancing on objects allows you to practice the balance ball, the rolla-bolla and the unicycle.
  • Aerial disciplines include rope, aerial hoop, trapeze and silks.
  • Acrobatics is approached on the ground and in the form of collective pyramids.
  • Clowning and magic complete this exploration of circus arts.

Materials and subjects offered in schools

As part of its school projects, Saga Cirque has an even wider range of equipment and disciplines.

  • Juggling and object manipulation: balls, hoops, clubs, diabolos, devil sticks, scarves, antipodism and hula-hoop.
  • Balance work: barrels, balance ball, rolla-bolla, unicycle and balance wire (when the characteristics of the place allow it).
  • Acrobatics: pyramids, hand-to-hand and ground acrobatics.
  • Aerials: aerial rope, trapeze, silks and aerial hoop (integrated when the technical conditions of the venue allow it).
  • Magic: explicitly offered among the disciplines.

School projects can therefore be adapted according to the available equipment and the technical conditions of the rooms.

Saga Cirque places great importance on the cultural dimension of circus arts. In schools, the association can complement practical workshops with a session dedicated to the history and life of the circus, addressing, for example, the erection of a big top, travel, and lifestyles associated with the traveling circus.

Pedagogy

The teaching methods are adapted to the age and the audience. The stated objective is to allow children to learn while being valued , rather than building the activity solely around technical performance .

Forms of intervention

  • A one-off introduction to circus arts for a school.
  • Building a project over a longer period, which could lead to the creation and presentation of a show by the children.
  • Each project is prepared with the teacher or teaching team in order to adapt the content to the objectives of the institution.

This dimension is important in the functioning of Saga Cirque: the association does not simply offer a standardized entertainment, but seeks to integrate circus arts into the educational project of the group being hosted.

Experiences and collaborations

Saga Cirque has extensive experience in school programs in Normandy. Its website lists numerous collaborations with schools in the Eure and Seine-Maritime departments, including:

  • Evreux
  • Brionne
  • Gisors
  • Gaillon
  • Louviers
  • Honfleur
  • Gravigny
  • André
  • Huest
  • Calleville
  • Caugé
  • Saint-Marcel

Mobile operation

This activity is made possible by the association's itinerant nature. Saga Cirque does not have its own permanent venue: the team travels with the necessary equipment and adapts the workshops to the spaces made available by schools, institutions, and local authorities.

Outdoor interventions

The association specifies that it does not carry out its activities outdoors. Its traveling projects therefore require a suitable venue and, for certain disciplines such as tightrope walking or aerial arts, technical conditions that allow for safe practice.

Teaching staff

The educational director, Agathe Tixier, has a background combining artistic practice and teaching. After starting circus arts at the age of 6 in a leisure school, she completed a baccalaureate with a Circus Arts option at the National Circus School of Châtellerault before teaching in several circus schools.

She has also developed an artistic career, working in various circuses in France, Belgium, and Switzerland. She has been involved with Saga Cirque since the association's creation in September 2016 .

  • State diploma for circus instructors

Cultural and territorial projects

Saga Cirque also participates in broader cultural and territorial projects. In July 2026 , for example, the association took part in the Quartier d'été events in Pont-Audemer with a day including a demonstration, a show, circus workshops and a participatory street performance.

Philosophy and complementarity

The school operates within a framework that extends beyond the weekly classes in Val-de-Reuil. Its equipment, the versatility of its disciplines, and its mobile structure allow it to directly engage with audiences across various regions of Normandy. This complementary approach, combining regular instruction with outreach programs, enables Saga Cirque to contribute to the discovery and transmission of circus arts in the Eure and Seine-Maritime departments, using a multidisciplinary approach led by qualified professionals.
