CircusKabel is an amateur circus school located in Delft, in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Founded in 2010 by four teachers and artists passionate about circus theatre, it develops an educational and social project dedicated to the discovery of circus arts by children and teenagers.

The association was created with a particular ambition: to allow everyone to practice circus arts, regardless of their social background or financial situation .

CircusKabel views the circus as an activity that allows for the simultaneous development of physical abilities, creativity, self-confidence and relationships with others.

A weekly and multidisciplinary teaching

The school offers weekly classes for young practitioners, with teaching adapted to their age and experience.

Children can begin to discover circus arts from the age of 6 .

The teaching is multidisciplinary and allows participants to experience several major families of circus techniques.

The disciplines offered

  • Juggling : students gradually learn to manipulate different objects, coordinate their movements and develop their concentration.
  • The unicycle : children discover the techniques needed to find their balance, move around and progress towards more complex figures.
  • Tightrope walking : it helps develop stability, concentration and body control.
  • The balance ball : it requires coordination, patience and control of movements.

Acrobatics plays an important role in CircusKabel's activities.

Children discover different acrobatic techniques and gradually develop their strength, flexibility and coordination.

Group exercises also allow us to work on cooperation and mutual trust.

A social dimension at the heart of the project

This social dimension constitutes one of the foundations of the association's educational project.

Students learn to help each other, to respect each other's abilities, and to work together to progress.

CircusKabel favours an encouraging approach in which each child can discover their own skills.

The goal is not only to successfully perform technical maneuvers, but also to develop perseverance and self-confidence .

Young people are encouraged to experiment, try again and progress at their own pace.

Circus and artistic expression

The school also combines circus techniques with theatre and artistic expression.

This approach allows children to discover how circus disciplines can become tools for creation and performance.

The most experienced students can participate in a group dedicated to performances, called " Optreedgroep ".

This group brings together teenagers who have been practicing circus arts for several years and who have gradually specialized in certain disciplines.

  • The young artists work together to prepare acts and performances.
  • They may include performances of acrobatics, unicycling and other circus techniques.
  • Preparing for shows helps develop stage presence, creativity, and the ability to work collectively.
  • Participants also discover the demands of performing in front of an audience.

A presence in local cultural life

CircusKabel regularly participates in cultural events organized in Delft.

The school is notably present at the Club Delft Festival , where it offers demonstrations and discovery activities.

During these events, visitors can experience different techniques such as juggling, balancing, and unicycling.

The young artists in the performance group can also present their creations.

These events allow circus arts to be introduced to a wider audience and to showcase the work done during classes.

The social circus and the Kans! project

CircusKabel is also developing a significant social circus activity.

The association believes that circus arts can contribute to children's personal development and promote social cohesion.

She particularly wants to make this practice accessible to young people who face financial or social difficulties.

The " Kans! " project is part of this approach.

It aims to offer circus activities in disadvantaged neighborhoods in order to allow more children to discover the circus and theatre.

The association also plans to provide access to regular classes for families who do not have the resources to finance registration.

This desire for inclusion is an important characteristic of CircusKabel.

The school uses circus disciplines as a way to foster encounters, develop confidence and strengthen bonds between participants.

The activities allow children to discover their own abilities while learning to cooperate with others.

International projects and collaborations

CircusKabel also develops projects and collaborations outside the Netherlands.

The association maintains links with social circus initiatives in Argentina .

These projects are part of a broader approach aimed at using circus arts as a tool for education, personal development and social cohesion.

Festivals and public events

In addition to weekly classes, CircusKabel participates in festivals and public events.

These interventions can take the form of discovery workshops, practice spaces or performances carried out by young artists.

They allow children to discover circus disciplines in a setting different from usual classes.

Participants can experience juggling, unicycling, balancing, and various acrobatic techniques.

These activities also help to raise awareness of the school among families in Delft and the surrounding communities.

Values at the foundation of education

CircusKabel's teaching is based on several essential values: accessibility , cooperation , creativity and self-confidence .

Teachers seek to create an environment in which children can experiment freely while receiving educational support.

The diversity of disciplines allows everyone to discover different abilities.

Some children develop a preference for juggling, while others are more interested in balancing, unicycling, or acrobatics.

This diversity allows young people to progress according to their desires and abilities.

The preparation of the shows adds an additional artistic dimension.

Students learn to use their technical skills to build acts and share their work with an audience.

In this way, they develop their autonomy, their creativity and their ability to participate in a collective project.

A recognized organization for amateur circus arts education

With over fifteen years of existence, regular courses and significant activity in the field of social circus, CircusKabel constitutes an interesting structure for amateur circus arts education in Delft.

The school allows children and teenagers to discover different disciplines, develop their physical and artistic abilities and, for the most motivated, to participate in shows.

Her commitment to accessibility is also an essential dimension of her identity.

CircusKabel thus combines technical learning, artistic expression and social inclusion, using circus arts as a means of developing confidence, cooperation and the pleasure of practicing together.
