Founded in 2002, Cirq'en Bulles is a circus school located in Herseaux, near Mouscron. It offers weekly classes, workshops, shows, and activities focused on balance, juggling, acrobatics, trapeze, and acting. Recognized as a Center for Expression and Creativity, the school prioritizes a family-oriented, creative, and non-competitive approach to teaching, where everyone can discover the circus and progress at their own pace.
Cirq'en Bulles is a circus school located in Herseaux , in the Mouscron area of Belgium. Created in April 2002 by Céline Coppens , it has been developing learning, creation and discovery activities around circus arts for more than twenty years.
Its founder, Céline Coppens, is a physical education teacher and trained as a pedagogical facilitator at the Brussels Circus School. Her project was to develop a festive , creative and accessible circus, in a family atmosphere far removed from any logic of competition.
This philosophy remains central to how Cirq'en Bulles operates. Each participant is encouraged to progress at their own pace , according to their physical abilities, personality, and creativity. Technical learning thus becomes a means of developing self-confidence , autonomy , and personal expression .
The school welcomes children from the age of 4 into its weekly classes. Several groups are then offered according to age and type of practice, with continuity up to adolescence and beyond 15 years old.
The teaching allows students to discover the main families of circus arts. Balance , juggling and acrobatics occupy an important place in the practice, alongside the trapeze and acting .
The approach is therefore deliberately multidisciplinary. Students do not simply discover a succession of techniques: body work and manipulation are associated with an artistic and expressive dimension.
Acting plays a full part in this process. It allows one to learn how to inhabit the space, to develop one's presence, and to gradually transform the technical skills acquired during classes into artistic ones.
The groups designed for children allow for a gradual introduction to the different disciplines. For teenagers wishing to pursue their practice more intensively, the school also offers an advanced training group.
The season is punctuated by public performances. Weekly classes end with a show, except for the Monday recreational groups. The school alternates between a year organized around a major show and a year devoted to " Open Stages ."
This stage dimension allows students to discover an essential component of circus arts: building something collectively and then presenting it in front of an audience.
The school also organizes workshops during the various school holiday periods. These allow children to discover or further develop their skills in juggling, balance, acrobatics, acting, and trapeze.
Some courses are dedicated to more specialized practice. Advanced aerial training courses are offered, in particular, to older practitioners.
Cirq'en Bulles also performs outside of its school. The association offers entertainment at neighborhood festivals, school events, weddings, trade shows, company parties, and other events.
Its "circus space" allows children and adults alike to freely try out different techniques with guidance from an instructor. Introductory sessions can also be organized directly in schools, associations, or businesses.
A troupe from Cirq'en Bulles also performs shows and entertainment at public and private events, creating a link between the learning offered at school and the presentation of circus arts to the public.
Since 2009 , Cirq'en Bulles has had its own premises in Herseaux. This space hosts the association's classes, workshops and various activities.
The school even has a small specialist shop, " Bulle en Plus ", located on its premises and offering circus equipment to practitioners.
Cirq'en Bulles is recognized by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation as a Centre for Expression and Creativity. This recognition aligns well with its mission: to use artistic practice as a means of expression and personal development rather than solely seeking technical performance.
With its weekly classes, advanced groups, workshops, shows, activities and more than twenty years of experience, Cirq'en Bulles is today a well-established circus school in the Mouscron region and a place for amateur practice accessible to different ages and levels.
