The ESSC Circus School in Sathonay-Camp welcomes children and teenagers aged 6 to 15 to discover the circus arts in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere. The classes combine juggling, balancing, and acrobatics, and benefit from the sporting environment of a long-established club specializing in trampolining and acrobatics.
The ESSC Circus School is located in Sathonay-Camp , north of Lyon. It is one of the activities of the Entente Sportive de Sathonay-Camp, a historic sports club in the town which today offers a range of activities combining trampoline, acrobatics, circus arts, baby gym, fitness and yoga.
Founded in 1971 around gymnastics, the Entente Sportive de Sathonay-Camp has over fifty years of experience in coaching gymnastic and acrobatic activities. Trampoline was introduced to the club in 1983 and gradually became one of its major disciplines.
Today, the association has more than 300 members and welcomes both recreational practitioners and athletes engaged in high-level competitive trampoline practice.
It is in this environment, particularly focused on acrobatics, that ESSC has more recently developed its circus school .
The Circus School currently welcomes children and teenagers aged 6 to 15. The workshops allow them to discover different circus disciplines while developing physical abilities, coordination, creativity and self-confidence.
The teaching is based in particular on three main families of practices: juggling , balances and acrobatics .
The presence within the same club of an acrobatics school and a large trampoline section is an interesting feature. Participants train in a sporting environment with a long history of teaching acrobatic disciplines.
ESSC also offers a parallel Acrobatics and Trampoline School accessible from age 5. This allows children, teenagers and adults to explore acrobatics and trampoline more specifically, with recreational practice and, for some groups, a focus on competition.
For younger children, the club also offers a Baby Gym program starting at 18 months . Between the ages of 3 and 5, some sessions combine motor skills, coordination, and an introduction to circus arts. This provides a first experience of physical movement and circus arts before they enter the Circus School.
The association also organizes training courses for children during school holidays. These days allow them to continue practicing or discover different activities offered by the club.
All activities take place in the same facility, the Maurice Danis hall in Sathonay-Camp.
The ESSC Circus School thus presents a slightly different profile from a traditional circus school. It was born within a historic sports club particularly specialized in trampoline and acrobatics . This close connection with gymnastic disciplines is an important component of its identity.
Today, the school is aimed primarily at children and teenagers seeking a fun and multidisciplinary introduction to circus arts, with a significant focus on juggling, balancing, and acrobatics.
