Grupa Cyrkowa SEK – Edukacja Krytyczna

Grupa Cyrkowa SEK is an educational circus group created by young people within Stowarzyszenie Edukacji Krytycznej, an association committed to education and social inclusion in Wrocław, Poland.

Based at Centrum Nowe Łąki, the group brings together children and teenagers of different backgrounds and skill levels around the practice of circus arts. Its operation is based on peer-to-peer pedagogy: participants learn from each other, share their knowledge and develop their skills in a collective setting.

The young people prepare shows, including fire acts, and participate in circus workshops and training programs in Poland and abroad. The group has notably taken part in the Dziecinada festival and international exchanges.

This approach combines artistic practice, cooperation and personal development, while giving young people an active role in the organization and transmission of activities.

Wrocław Poland

Grupa Cyrkowa SEK is an associative circus group developed within Stowarzyszenie Edukacji Krytycznej, a Polish organization committed to education, social inclusion and support for children and adolescents.

Based in Wrocław, the group is distinguished by its participatory approach: young people themselves take an active part in organizing training sessions, transmitting skills and creating shows.

A training space at Centrum Nowe Łąki

Circus activities are hosted at Centrum Nowe Łąki , located at 81 Traugutta Street, in the Przedmieście Oławskie district.

This integration center offers various educational and cultural activities for the residents of Wrocław.

Grupa Cyrkowa SEK has a training space there allowing young people to meet to practice circus arts, exchange knowledge and prepare performances.

A pedagogy based on peer learning

One of the group's distinctive features is its peer-to-peer approach, or peer-to-peer pedagogy.

Rather than relying solely on a vertical transmission between a teacher and their students, the system encourages participants to learn from each other.

Younger people with more experience can mentor beginners, share their techniques and contribute to collective progress.

This method promotes autonomy , responsibility , cooperation and self-confidence .

It also allows for the recognition of the skills of participants from different cultural and social backgrounds.

Circus arts as a tool for inclusion

The Stowarzyszenie Edukacji Krytycznej develops numerous projects aimed at children and adolescents, especially those who encounter social difficulties or who face situations of exclusion.

In this context, the circus provides a medium for expression and encounter.

Participants can develop their physical and artistic abilities while learning to work together.

The association places particular importance on the active participation of young people and their ability to take initiatives.

Performances and collective creations

Grupa Cyrkowa SEK prepares and presents shows made by children and teenagers.

Fire acts occupy a special place in his artistic repertoire.

These creations allow participants to discover the demands of the stage, to work on collective coordination and to share their achievements with different audiences.

The group notably participated in the Dziecinada festival, dedicated to shows for young spectators.

International internships and meetings

The activities of Grupa Cyrkowa SEK go beyond local training.

The association mentions the organization of three camps in Wolimierz as well as participation in several international meetings and training courses.

The young people notably took part in the Brave Kids project in Georgia and in training courses organized in Görlitz, Germany, as well as in Budapest.

These experiences promote intercultural exchange and allow participants to discover other approaches to circus arts.

For some members, these trips also represent their first experience of international travel.

An educational project led by young people

Grupa Cyrkowa SEK is not a professional circus school and does not offer any diploma-granting training.

This is an association group for the practice, creation and transmission of circus arts, supported by an organization specializing in social education.

Its originality lies in the place given to young people, who participate directly in the life of the group and in the transmission of skills.

By combining circus practice, peer pedagogy, creation of shows and international encounters, Grupa Cyrkowa SEK offers an approach to the circus centered on autonomy, cooperation and social inclusion.
