Invertarium – Community school of aerial acrobatics and contemporary circus in Velika Gorica

Invertarium is a Croatian association founded in 2025 in Velika Gorica, in the Zagreb region. Its official name designates an association dedicated to the promotion of contemporary circus , performing arts, education and recreational activities.

It offers regular aerial acrobatics classes and circus arts discovery activities for children, teenagers, adults and families.

The training sessions take place in a studio located within the Velika Gorica shopping center, in the premises of Fortis Gym , near Trg kralja Petra Krešimira IV square.

The association develops an approach to circus that combines technical learning , artistic expression , physical development and social participation .

A school resulting from ten years of local practice

Although Invertarium was officially founded in 2025 , its origins can be traced back to an earlier teaching activity.

The first aerial silks training sessions in Velika Gorica began at the end of 2016 .

At that time, the future members of the association were participating in the activities of a partner organization based in Zagreb.

Over the years, they have contributed to the development of aerial practice in their city.

The creation of Invertarium has made it possible to give this activity an autonomous associative identity and to broaden the teaching possibilities.

The year 2026 thus marks almost ten years of aerial silks practice in Velika Gorica, even though the current association has only existed since 2025.

The aerial fabric at the heart of the formations

Aerial silks, called " ples na svili " in Croatian, is one of the main disciplines taught by Invertarium.

This practice uses long strips of suspended fabric to perform acrobatic and choreographic movements.

Learning is based on the progressive development of strength , coordination , flexibility , and body control .

Participants discover grip techniques, climbs, suspended positions and transitions between different figures.

The work can also incorporate the fluidity of movements and the composition of artistic sequences.

Invertarium welcomes beginners who do not necessarily have prior experience in sports, dance or gymnastics.

This accessibility is an important characteristic of its educational program.

The hoop and the aerial hammock

The association also presents aerial hoop and aerial hammock among its disciplines.

Aerial hoop uses a suspended circular apparatus on which practitioners can discover different positions, figures and transitions.

This discipline requires strength , balance , coordination and body awareness .

The aerial hammock uses a piece of fabric suspended in a loop shape.

It allows us to explore other possibilities of movement, suspension and manipulation of the body in space.

These disciplines were notably offered to the public during the discovery workshops organized in April 2026.

Note

Aerial silks is explicitly confirmed in the regular groups for the 2026–2027 season. The precise details of the permanent hoop and hammock courses should be checked with the association.

Training adapted for children

Invertarium develops several activities aimed at children.

For the 2026–2027 season, the association announces a discovery group for the youngest children, aged 5 to 8 years .

This program allows children to explore movement, coordination, and basic physical skills through adapted exercises.

The association also offers beginner aerial silks groups for children and teenagers aged 7 to 17 .

These training courses aim to progressively develop the skills necessary for aerial practice.

The teaching places great emphasis on concentration , self-confidence , and discovering the body's capabilities.

Participants can progress at their own pace in an environment that promotes learning and creativity.

Courses accessible to adults

Invertarium also welcomes adults wishing to discover aerial acrobatics.

The courses are open to people with no prior experience and do not have an announced upper age limit.

The goal is to allow everyone to discover a physical practice different from traditional sports activities.

The exercises combine muscle strengthening , mobility , coordination and technical learning .

Aerial silks also allow us to explore the relationship between physical effort and artistic expression.

The association presents these courses as an activity accessible to people who wish to develop their physical condition while discovering the circus arts.

Let u dvoje: practicing circus arts as a family

One of the new features of the 2026–2027 season is the program “ Let u dvoje ”, which can be translated as “ Flight for Two ”.

This activity is intended for school-aged children from six years old and their parents or other adult family members.

It allows adults and children to participate together in a training session.

The program is based on the shared learning of new physical and circus skills.

It seeks to encourage exchanges, cooperation and the pleasure of engaging in a common activity.

Parents can discover the exercises at the same time as their children and share an artistic and physical experience.

This approach helps to strengthen family relationships while encouraging regular physical activity.

A locally supported circus education project

The Let u dvoje program is part of the project “ U ravnoteži: program cirkuske pedagogije za mlade i obitelji ”.

Its title roughly translates to " In Balance: Circus Education Program for Youth and Families ".

This initiative is supported by the City of Velika Gorica .

It aims to develop opportunities for artistic and physical practice for young people and families.

The project emphasizes skills transmission, collective participation and the discovery of circus arts.

It constitutes a particular dimension of Invertarium's work, which does not limit its teaching to the acquisition of acrobatic figures.

Cirkus ne radi razliku: making the circus accessible

Invertarium is also developing a social project called " Cirkus ne radi razliku ", which can be translated as " The circus makes no distinction ".

This initiative aims to facilitate access to circus activities for people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

In 2026 , the association obtained financial support from the City of Velika Gorica as part of a call for projects dedicated to social and humanitarian activities.

This funding will subsidize the participation of four beneficiaries facing financial difficulties.

The project is based on the idea that artistic and physical practices should be accessible to different audiences.

It represents a concrete step towards social inclusion through circus arts.

This initiative does not make Invertarium a specialized medical-social establishment, but it shows the importance given to accessibility and participation.

A teaching method combining movement and expression

Invertarium's teaching is not limited to the creation of spectacular figures.

The association presents aerial disciplines as a way to develop body awareness , coordination and self-confidence .

Technical work allows participants to gradually discover new possibilities for movement.

Regular practice also contributes to muscle strengthening and the development of mobility .

The exercises can be adapted to each person's abilities and experience.

The artistic dimension plays an important role, particularly through the fluidity of movements and the exploration of personal sequences.

This approach makes it possible to link physical practice, creativity and the discovery of contemporary circus.

A studio in the center of Velika Gorica

The activities take place at the Fortis Gym premises, within the Velika Gorica shopping centre.

This center includes rooms specifically designed for group training and aerial silks practice.

The location allows Invertarium to offer regular activities in a place accessible to the city's residents.

The studio welcomes groups of children, teenagers and adults, as well as family programs.

The address of the teaching location must be distinguished from the administrative headquarters of the association, located at Ulica Matije Magdalenića 1 .

Invertarium therefore uses a specialized training space, without owning an independent establishment identified in the sources consulted.

World Circus Day 2026

In April 2026 , Invertarium participated in the celebrations of World Circus Day.

The association organized free aerial acrobatics workshops in Franjo Tuđman Park, in Velika Gorica.

These sessions were intended for anyone wishing to discover the circus arts.

Participants were able to experience the first techniques of aerial silks, hoop and hammock.

No prior experience was necessary.

The event generated significant interest among the local public.

According to the organizers, several people asked for information about adult groups and beginner courses for children.

This event helped to raise awareness of the association's activities outside of its usual studio.

Educational activity confirmed for 2026–2027

Invertarium has officially announced the opening of its new season on September 4, 2026 .

Registration is open to children, teenagers, adults and families.

The program includes regular aerial silks groups for different ages, an activity for younger children and the family program Let u dvoje .

The association is also continuing its inclusion project Cirkus ne radi razliku .

These announcements constitute recent evidence of the continuity of its educational activity.

Unlike structures whose last documented courses date back several years, Invertarium therefore has a current teaching program, with registrations announced for autumn 2026.

An amateur circus association in development

Invertarium represents a new stage in the development of circus arts in Velika Gorica.

Its creation allows for the continuation of a local aerial fabric activity initiated several years earlier, while also developing new programs.

The association offers a practice accessible to beginners and people of different ages.

It combines technical education , family activities , discovery workshops and social inclusion projects .

Through its regular courses and public initiatives, it helps to raise awareness of contemporary circus in the Zagreb region.

Invertarium can be classified as an amateur circus association school , specializing in aerial disciplines, with a complementary activity of family education and social accessibility.

No professional degree programs have been identified.
