Kinder-Mitmach-Zirkus is a participatory circus workshop for children, held regularly at the Alte Meierei , a self-managed cultural center in Kiel , Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. The activity offers children an accessible and welcoming space to discover circus arts, try different disciplines, and develop their own skills at their own pace.

The workshop takes place twice a month , on the second and fourth Mondays , from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM . It is open to children of different ages and requires no prior circus experience. On the contrary, the principle is based on discovery and experimentation : each participant can try out the equipment and choose the activities that correspond to their interests and skill level.

The range of disciplines offered is particularly varied. Children can discover juggling with balls, rings, and clubs, learn to ride a unicycle, or experiment with different forms of balance, including tightrope walking. Those wishing to explore aerial disciplines can also try their hand at the trapeze and other forms of aerial acrobatics.

The activity is not limited to physical techniques and object manipulation. Kinder-Mitmach-Zirkus also allows children to explore forms of stage expression such as slapstick and various improvisation techniques. The circus thus becomes a playground blending movement, creativity, personal expression, and artistic discovery.

The sessions are led by experienced professionals from the world of entertainment and circus: artists, jugglers, clowns, and circus instructors share their knowledge and guide the children in their experiments. The goal is not to impose a uniform learning method, but to allow each child to try, progress, and discover their own talents in a group setting.

The Kinder-Mitmach-Zirkus also stands out for its accessibility: participation is free . Donations are nevertheless welcome to help support the activity. This approach aligns with the general operation of the Alte Meierei , a self-managed cultural center that has hosted non-commercial activities and events in Kiel for many years.

In addition to the children's activities, the Alte Meierei hosts an open juggling and acrobatics session every Monday from 6 pm . This session is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners, providing an opportunity to practice together, exchange techniques, and learn new moves in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Kinder-Mitmach-Zirkus thus provides a particularly accessible gateway to circus arts in Kiel. Thanks to the diversity of disciplines offered, the guidance of experienced artists and educators, and the fact that the activity is free, children can discover juggling, balance, acrobatics, and stage performance in an environment that promotes experimentation, fun, and collective learning.
