La Maraña Circo is a school and space dedicated to circus arts located in Málaga, Andalusia.

The current project stems from the evolution of La Cajonera Circo Málaga , which had already developed for five years an integral and continuous circus training program for children, young people and adults.

La Maraña continues this work today in a permanent space located at Calle Canadá 64 , in the Polígono Industrial El Viso de Málaga.

The school offers continuing education organized throughout the entire academic year.

The 2026-2027 season begins on October 5, 2026 and registration remains possible throughout the year depending on available places.

An educational program for all audiences

The educational offering covers a particularly wide audience.

Circummotor skills (5-6 years)

The youngest children can start with Circomotricidad, intended for children aged 5 to 6 years .

This initial approach uses play, movement and various circus techniques to develop motor skills.

The children experiment with balance , object manipulation and ground acrobatics .

An initial introduction to aerial disciplines is also offered.

The goal is not to immediately seek technical performance.

Circus arts primarily serve to develop coordination , balance , spatial awareness , proprioception , strength and body awareness .

Creativity and autonomy are also among the objectives of this initial approach.

The Children's Circus (ages 7 and up)

From the age of 7 , Circo Infantil allows for a considerable expansion of discovery.

The children practice different circus arts throughout the year:

  • Juggling is part of the curriculum.
  • Balancing acts on objects are also practiced.
  • Ground acrobatics is another important aspect.
  • The acroportés gradually introduce teamwork.
  • Aerial disciplines are approached through silks, trapeze and hoop.
  • An introduction to unicycling completes this multidisciplinary approach.

The Youth Circus

The youngsters then continue with the Circo Juvenil.

This course aims to give them experience in the main fundamental disciplines of the circus at an introductory or intermediate level.

Progression is organized throughout the year:

  1. During the first term , the work focuses in particular on juggling, object manipulation and ground acrobatics.
  2. The second quarter is devoted to balances on objects and verticals.
  3. The third quarter introduces a phase of technical specialization.

An artistic dimension is then added to the technical work.

The students are also preparing for their end-of-year presentation.

This organization is interesting because it gradually accompanies the transition from technical discovery to creation .

Aerial disciplines for teenagers

Teenagers can complement Circo Juvenil with training specifically dedicated to aerial disciplines .

La Maraña again favours a multi-faceted approach.

The students are not immediately confined to a single piece of equipment.

They work successively on the trapeze , the aerial hoop , the silks and the rope .

The school believes that this versatility allows for the building of a more complete physical and artistic foundation.

The groups are organized to take into account the age and progress of the students.

The number of participants is limited in order to allow for genuine support.

During the third term, young people can gradually deepen their knowledge of a technique.

They are also working on the artistic dimension and preparing the end-of-year presentation.

The offer is aimed at adults

The offering aimed at adults is more specialized .

Aerial silks and rope

La Maraña offers, in particular, a course dedicated to aerial silks and rope .

These courses allow you to start with the fundamental techniques and then progress to more complex elements.

The students work with figures, sequences and transitions.

Dynamic movements are gradually introduced.

Rotations and various technical elements complete the program.

Physical conditioning and flexibility are integrated into aerial work.

The goal is therefore to simultaneously build technique , strength , mobility and understanding of movement .

Other adult courses

  • Other adult classes are devoted to the trapeze and aerial hoop .
  • Verticals also have their own niche.
  • Specific training in physical preparation and flexibility completes the offer.

This organization allows adults to build a program that better matches their goals.

A practitioner can thus concentrate on an aerial discipline while adding physical work or verticals.

Free training

La Maraña is not limited to guided courses.

The space also hosts open training sessions.

These time slots allow practitioners to continue their work independently.

The space has several suspension points and pulleys .

  • Fixed trapezes can be installed at different heights.
  • Aerial fabrics are available.
  • Safety equipment and mattresses also allow for acrobatic work.

These open training sessions are an interesting complement to the weekly classes.

They also create a place where practitioners can meet, share their knowledge and continue to progress.

Attention

The school specifies that this is not a supervised activity. Participants must therefore practice according to their autonomy and skill level.

This coexistence between structured teaching and space for free practice gives La Maraña a broader function than a simple school offering a few courses.

It also serves as a place of practice and meeting for the circus community of Málaga.

A school registered in the Spanish network

La Maraña belongs to the Federación Española de Escuelas de Circo Socio Educativo, FEECSE.

This federation brings together schools and projects from different Spanish regions working around circus arts education and its socio-educational dimensions.

This membership places La Maraña in a national network that is particularly relevant for circus arts education.

The pedagogical approach

The educational approach designed for children aligns well with this orientation.

The practice is used to develop physical abilities but also confidence , autonomy , creativity and the ability to gradually take on new challenges .

The circus is approached as a field of experimentation.

  • The child learns to know their body and its capabilities.
  • He experiences balance and imbalance.
  • He develops his coordination through manipulation.
  • He discovers relationships with others through acrobatic activities and group practices.

The progression of the young people then adds an artistic dimension.

Students no longer work solely to successfully complete a specific move.

They gradually learn to use their technique in a presentation.

Preparing the final performance allows students to test their learning on stage and in front of an audience.

A logic of continuing education

La Maraña thus has a genuine logic of continuing education .

  1. A child can start with circomotricity .
  2. He can then join the multidisciplinary children's circus .
  3. In adolescence, he can continue with the Circo Juvenil and complete this path with aerial training .
  4. From around age 14 , specialized adult courses allow you to continue to progress.

This continuity is particularly interesting for an amateur school.

It helps to avoid a break in practice during the transition between childhood, adolescence and adulthood.

The 2026-2027 season

The 2026-2027 season confirms the current vitality of the project.

Continuing education resumes on October 5, 2026 .

Courses are scheduled for children, teenagers and adults.

Aerial disciplines, verticals, physical preparation and flexibility have specific time slots.

Open training sessions are also maintained.

La Maraña is therefore today a truly permanent space dedicated to the circus in Málaga .

NetJuggler directory positioning

Main category

For the NetJuggler directory, the main category should be " Amateur Schools ".

The school offers a technical progression that can become significant and allows more independent students to train freely.

However, it does not currently offer an intensive and selective professional course designed to directly train professional artists.

It is also not an institution of higher education.

Its strength lies more in the continuity of its teaching and in the diversity of the levels offered .

The educational circus aspect is particularly clear among children and young people.

Membership in FEECSE also strengthens La Maraña's place in the Spanish socio-educational circus network.

For Málaga and Andalusia more broadly, La Maraña is therefore a particularly relevant school: a permanent space where children, teenagers and adults can discover the circus, gradually build a technical practice, specialize in certain disciplines and continue to train autonomously.
