Grupa Cyrkowa CIRCUS is a circus arts group founded in 1998 within Młodzieżowy Ośrodek Socjoterapii nr 6, in Warsaw. This specialized educational structure supports young people experiencing difficulties in their academic or social development.

Since its creation, the group has been led by Anna Adamczyk , a graduate of the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw, an educator at MOS 6 and a children's circus trainer.

A long history of circus pedagogy

CIRCUS is one of the oldest educational circus groups in Poland. According to the organization's presentation, more than 250 young people have participated in its activities since its creation.

The group mainly welcomes students and alumni of MOS 6, as well as young people from a partner institution in Warsaw.

Learning circus disciplines is part of a process of personal development , socialization and education through artistic practice.

Juggling and object manipulation

Juggling plays an important role in the group's activities.

Participants discover balls, rings, scarves, clubs, diabolo, Chinese plates, poi and devil stick.

This diversity allows everyone to find a discipline suited to their abilities and interests. The exercises promote coordination , concentration , precision , and perseverance .

Balance, acrobatics and unicycling

The program also includes acrobatics, unicycling, stilt walking, rolla bolla, balance ball and slacklining.

These activities require body control, balance, and confidence in one's movements.

They allow young people to gradually acquire new skills, by experimenting and overcoming technical difficulties.

Clown and stage performance

Clowning is one of the disciplines practiced by CIRCUS.

The group prepares shows and public demonstrations that allow participants to develop their artistic expression and confidence in front of an audience.

Performances also provide an opportunity to share acquired skills and to celebrate individual and collective progress.

The circus as an educational and social tool

One of the essential characteristics of CIRCUS is its use of circus arts in a sociotherapy and educational approach.

The team views juggling and circus activities as ways to develop concentration, coordination, self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

Learning is based on progressive challenges , cooperation , and the discovery of one's own abilities.

The group also participates in workshops aimed at passing on circus techniques to other children and teenagers.

International exchanges and projects

Over the years, CIRCUS has participated in numerous shows, festivals and educational projects in Poland and abroad.

The group has notably taken part in international meetings with young Germans and Ukrainians, as well as in artistic projects organized in several Polish cities.

These exchanges help to enrich the experience of the participants and to develop relationships between young people from different backgrounds.

A specialized educational structure

CIRCUS does not operate like a private circus school open to the general public.

The activities are primarily intended for young people accompanied by MOS 6 and some former participants or partners.

This is therefore a circus arts teaching group integrated into a specialized educational establishment, and not a professional qualification course.

With its history beginning in 1998, the diversity of its disciplines and its approach based on circus pedagogy, CIRCUS constitutes a particularly interesting example of the use of circus arts in the education and social support of adolescents.
