Pirouette Zona Circo is a school and center dedicated to circus arts located in Burgos , Castile and León.

Opened in September 2020 , the center was born from the experience of a team that has been developing circus teaching activities since 2006.

Pirouette views the circus simultaneously as a professional artistic activity and as a constructive leisure activity accessible to the greatest number.

The school welcomes children, teenagers, adults and families.

Regular classes allow you to start circus arts without prior experience and then progress in different disciplines.

Learning combines physical activity, play, and artistic expression.

For children, the circus is notably used to develop psychomotor skills , coordination , autonomy and confidence .

The diversity of disciplines allows each student to experiment with several ways of moving their body.

Children's and teenagers' courses

The youngest children can start from the age of 4 with PequeCirco .

This first course uses play and circus techniques to develop motor skills.

Children are gradually confronted with new challenges adapted to their age.

The goal is to allow them to better understand their abilities and limitations while enjoying the practice.

From the age of 6 , the Cirquito program allows this discovery to continue.

The students work on the fundamental elements of the different families of circus disciplines.

The progression then becomes more technical in the groups intended for older children.

Circo Infantil welcomes children aged 8 and 9 in particular.

They discover juggling , balancing , acrobatics and aerial techniques .

This multidisciplinary approach allows them to develop several skills simultaneously.

The Circo Junior groups allow this progression to continue around 10 to 12 years old.

Teenagers then have access to courses specifically adapted to their age.

The program for young people combines, in particular, ground acrobatics and aerial disciplines.

A specific aerials course also allows teenagers wishing to delve deeper into this family of disciplines to benefit from more specialized instruction.

Adults also have a wide range of options available.

Aerial disciplines

Aerial acrobatics is one of the main focuses of Pirouette.

Aerial silks are the subject of regular classes.

The smooth rope is also taught.

The courses allow for the gradual development of physical fitness and technical knowledge necessary for the use of these devices.

Students learn the positions, figures, and winding and knot systems specific to aerial techniques.

The trapeze is also one of the apparatuses used within the school.

Aerial hoop is featured in the activities and workshops offered by the center.

Pirouette has facilities allowing aerial disciplines to be practiced in a specially designed environment.

Floor acrobatics, verticals and body conditioning

Ground acrobatics constitutes another major focus.

Students gradually learn to use their bodies in different acrobatic situations.

An acrobatic track allows, in particular, the practice of dynamic movements.

Vertical courses have their own specific course.

The teaching allows you to start from the basics and then progress to more complex hand balances.

Physical preparation accompanies this work.

Flexibility classes help develop joint mobility and range of motion while strengthening muscles.

Juggling and balancing acts complete the offering.

These disciplines help to develop coordination, precision and concentration.

The FitKid

Pirouette also offers the FitKid .

This practice combines dance, acrobatics, movement, rhythm and choreography.

Teamwork plays an important role in this discipline.

Introductory groups allow participants to start gradually, while more advanced practitioners can join teams developing more demanding work.

The paths and the technification

All of these activities allow students to build a learning path tailored to their interests.

Some practitioners choose a multidisciplinary approach.

Others may gradually specialize in a particular technique.

A technical training program allows the most motivated students to increase their weekly practice time by taking several courses.

Pirouette also organizes monographic internships and training courses .

These sessions allow you to delve deeper into a particular technique with specialist teachers.

This offering complements regular courses and helps to create an environment for continuing education.

A place open to artists and professionals

The center does not function solely as a leisure school.

Pirouette also aims to be a meeting place for circus artists and professionals.

A space for training, rehearsal and creation is made available to them.

Artists can thus have access in Burgos to a specially equipped space to maintain their technique or prepare new projects.

The center also has the necessary equipment for presenting shows and demonstrations in front of an audience.

This close relationship between teaching, training and performance allows students to discover several facets of the circus world.

A professional artistic activity

Pirouette also develops a professional artistic activity.

The facility has its own shows and circus and magic acts.

The creations can be presented indoors or in public spaces.

The artists behind the project have experience performing in Spain and several other countries.

This professional experience directly informs the school's educational project.

The social dimension of the circus

Pirouette also gives significant importance to the social dimension of the circus.

The team has experience in projects developed with different audiences who are in situations of or at risk of exclusion.

Circus arts are used in these contexts as a tool to work on the body, confidence, cooperation and social relationships.

This socio-educational experience also influences the way in which regular school activities are designed.

The project aims to offer an accessible and constructive practice.

Technical performance is not the only objective.

The enjoyment of practicing, relationships between participants and personal development also occupy an important place.

Pirouette is part of the Spanish networks dedicated to the development of socio-educational circus.

The school is notably part of the Federación Española de Escuelas de Circo Socio Educativo .

This participation allows for the exchange of educational experiences with other schools and circus projects spread across Spain.

The team also has extensive experience in the fields of social education and socio-cultural activities.

This complementarity between artistic and educational skills is one of the characteristics of the project.

Activities during school holidays, birthdays and workshops

Pirouette develops activities during school holidays.

The summer programs allow children to practice circus skills every morning.

These workshops combine circus disciplines with other creative activities.

Participants can discover dance, body expression, magic, manual activities and various group games.

The teams supervising these programs bring together professionals with training in social education, socio-cultural activities, dance and circus arts.

This approach makes it possible to offer an experience that goes beyond a simple sports training course.

Group activities promote interaction and cooperation.

One-off birthdays and workshops are another way to discover the circus.

Participants can experience ground acrobatics and then various aerial techniques.

The trapeze, silks and aerial hoop can be used in these sessions.

The discovery process is always supervised by specialist teachers.

The development of the regional circus network

Pirouette also participates in the development of the regional circus network.

The school helps to create encounters between structures and practitioners in Castile and León.

In particular, she has developed initiatives bringing together different circus schools in the region.

This willingness to cooperate helps to strengthen the presence of contemporary circus in a territory where specialized training venues remain relatively few.

Founder Yésica Balbás Labrador

Founder Yésica Balbás Labrador has extensive experience as an artist, educator and circus project manager.

She notably received professional circus training in France at Arc en Cirque .

Her career also includes various international experiences and social circus projects.

Before the creation of Pirouette, she participated for many years in the development of the Torrelavega circus school.

She is also involved in training circus instructors.

This educational and professional experience forms one of the bases of the project developed in Burgos.

A space of over 350 m² dedicated to circus arts

The school now has a space of over 350 m2 dedicated to circus arts.

The facilities can accommodate regular classes, aerial disciplines, acrobatics, training and rehearsals.

The venue can also host public presentations.

Pirouette is therefore simultaneously a school , a training space and a place of creation .

Children can discover the circus through play.

Teenagers can gradually deepen their skills.

Adults can begin or improve their skills in various disciplines.

The most motivated practitioners can increase their training volume.

Artists can have a space adapted to their professional needs.

Socio-educational projects finally allow the use of the circus in contexts other than that of recreational practice.

This complementarity between training , creation , professional practice and social action makes Pirouette Zona Circo an important place for the development and transmission of circus arts in Burgos and Castile and León.
