Sauresani Zirkus-Schule is a travelling circus school based in Detmold , North Rhine-Westphalia. It forms the educational arm of Sauresani Theater & Circus , an artistic project developed by circus artist and educator Jens Heuwinkel .

Jens Heuwinkel has extensive experience in performance and teaching. Sauresani has been combining theatre , clowning , juggling , acrobatics , unicycling and audience participation for several decades.

A participatory and mobile circus school

The Sauresani Zirkus-Schule was designed as a participatory and mobile circus school.

It does not operate like a traditional school with a building hosting several groups of students each week. On the contrary, it travels to schools, festivals, parties and events to allow the public to discover circus disciplines directly.

The workshops

The workshops are open to children , teenagers and adults alike.

Participants can try different techniques depending on their preferences and skill level.

The disciplines offered

Juggling is naturally one of Sauresani's central disciplines.

Participants can learn to manipulate juggling balls and progress from the first exercises to chaining together several objects.

The diabolo is also part of the equipment provided.

Flowersticks allow for another form of object manipulation and help develop coordination and precision.

Participants can also try the spinning plates as well as the kendama .

The unicycle is another important component of the activities offered by Sauresani.

Unicycles are made available during the workshops and Jens Heuwinkel also offers specific unicycle courses on request.

The diversity of the equipment allows everyone to find an activity that matches their abilities and interests.

A flexible formula

The formula is intentionally flexible: participants can try the activities for a short period or stay longer to delve deeper into a technique.

The objective is therefore not solely to quickly achieve a technical performance.

Sauresani seeks to get participants moving, to stimulate their curiosity and to make them want to experiment.

A theatrical dimension

A theatrical dimension complements this approach.

Jens Heuwinkel uses his experience as an actor , clown and circus artist to combine technical learning and stage presence.

When the context allows, the workshop can lead to a real little performance.

The participants then present to the public the techniques they have just learned, accompanied by the " circus director " who provides the presentation and staging.

The duration of the circus school and the performance can be adapted to the organizer's needs.

Working with schools

Sauresani also carries out significant work with schools.

Jens Heuwinkel works particularly with primary school classes as part of artistic and cultural education projects.

These performances may combine juggling , acrobatics , circus techniques , magic and theatre .

Children therefore do not only discover technical figures: they also learn to transform their learning into a small form intended to be presented in front of an audience.

Sauresani is notably involved in the Kulturstrolche program in North Rhine-Westphalia.

During the 2025-2026 school year, Jens Heuwinkel is working with classes in Detmold , Bad Salzuflen and Lemgo .

The structure also develops projects within the framework of Kultur und Schule , where theatre and circus techniques are used to collectively create shows with students.

The interventions can be adapted to the age, the available space and the educational objectives of the group.

Activities can take place directly in a school or gymnasium.

For schools, some projects combine different modules dedicated to acrobatics , juggling , circus techniques or magic .

The collective dimension plays an important role: participants learn, experiment, and then build a presentation together.

A performance activity for young audiences

Sauresani also has a significant children's entertainment business.

His creations regularly combine theatre , juggling , acrobatics , unicycling and clowning .

This dual activity of creation and transmission allows the workshops to be directly nourished by professional experience on stage.

In 2026

In 2026 , the Sauresani Zirkus-Schule continues to be involved in numerous events in Germany.

Workshops are scheduled in Plettenberg and Hamm , while other Sauresani shows and interventions are organized in Goslar , Dortmund , Bad Harzburg , Barntrup and several other cities.

A traveling circus school

Sauresani Zirkus-Schule thus constitutes a particular form of circus school: rather than a fixed place offering only annual courses, it brings circus teaching directly to schools, communities, festivals and events.

His work combines amateur practice , arts education , participatory theatre and live performance .

For the directory, it therefore represents a particularly interesting travelling circus school to list in the Detmold region.
