The École des Nez Rouges is a non-profit circus school located in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges . With over twenty years of experience in circus arts and entertainment, it develops a popular education project combining amateur practice, artistic creation, shows, workshops and outreach to diverse audiences.

The school welcomes children from kindergarten and then supports them throughout their schooling, up to middle and high school. Workshops are also offered to adults, allowing them to practice circus arts at any age .

A multidisciplinary teaching

The teaching is multidisciplinary and allows exploration of the main families of circus arts.

Juggling

Juggling occupies an important place with the practice of balls, rings, scarves, clubs, Chinese plates, devil sticks, diabolo, bolas, cigar boxes and various forms of object manipulation.

The balances

Balancing on objects allows you to discover, in particular, the balance ball, the American roller, the unicycle, the wire, stilts, the beam and different forms of acrobatic cycles.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics is practiced individually and collectively, particularly on the ground and through the creation of human pyramids .

Aerial equipment

The school also has equipment for practicing aerial and acrobatic disciplines such as the fixed trapeze, aerial silks, aerial hoop, large trampoline and mini-trampoline.

Artistic expression

An important place is given to artistic expression . Clowning, mime, acting, theatre, dance and physical expression allow technical learning to be combined with stage research.

The creation

Creation is an integral part of the educational project. Participants can work on staging, makeup, costumes and sets in order to gradually build acts and then shows.

The workshops

The regular workshops for children are organized by age group , from preschool to high school. Each group thus benefits from instruction adapted to its age and progress.

Adults also have access to a weekly circus workshop. The association also offers other physical and artistic activities, which contribute to making the École des Nez Rouges a community space that extends beyond just circus training.

Putting on a show is one of the year's objectives for the children's groups. The school organizes a Circus Week during which the different groups present the results of their work to the public.

Internships

The association also offers introductory and advanced training courses. Their duration can vary from a few days to several weeks depending on the projects.

These workshops typically begin with an introduction to several disciplines before allowing participants to delve deeper into certain areas. They can then progress towards the creation of acts and a show presented at the end of the project.

Interventions in schools

The School of Red Noses also has significant experience in the educational field.

She works with students from kindergarten to high school and develops her projects in collaboration with teachers. Juggling, balancing, clowning, acrobatics, and aerial disciplines can be integrated into the projects depending on the location and educational objectives.

Classes can also come and spend a day directly at the École des Nez Rouges. They then benefit from equipment and facilities that are difficult to transport, including the trapeze, aerial silks and the large trampoline.

Specialized structures and adapted circus

One of the association's particularly important areas of focus concerns specialized structures and adapted circus .

The school regularly welcomes students from IME, ITEP, SESSAD, medico-social services, structures welcoming people with multiple disabilities and day hospitals for children and adults.

These workshops allow circus practice to be adapted to the abilities and needs of the different participants while retaining the playful, artistic and collective dimension inherent to circus arts.

Interventions outside the walls

The association also develops projects outside its premises in order to directly engage with the public. This approach is part of its mission of popular education and its desire to make artistic practices accessible to the widest possible audience.

The Red Nose School can therefore work with schools, local authorities, social centers, leisure centers, specialized structures, associations and other organizations.

It also offers demonstrations, street performances, and shows. Some are performed by young members, while the association can also offer professional shows.

Through the diversity of its courses, its significant external activity and its work with medical and social structures, the École des Nez Rouges is developing a particularly broad project around the transmission of circus arts , creation, popular education and the accessibility of artistic practices.
