Circus Teacher Training – Suomen Nuorisosirkusliitto, Finland

The Finnish Federation of Youth Circuses ( Suomen Nuorisosirkusliitto ) organizes a pedagogical training course for teachers, facilitators and speakers wishing to develop their skills in the transmission of circus arts.

The 2026-2027 session is organised into six training weekends spread across different cities in Finland: Lappeenranta , Tampere , Helsinki , Jyväskylä , Turku and Lahti .

This organization allows participants to discover several circus arts training establishments and environments while benefiting from a common educational program.

Target audience

The training is primarily aimed at people working in circus schools, youth circus associations and establishments offering structured artistic education.

It may also be of interest to professionals in dance, theatre, sports and youth work who wish to integrate circus techniques and methods into their activities.

Training objectives

The main objective is to develop the participants' teaching skills, strengthen their professional identity as teachers, and improve their ability to organize sessions adapted to different audiences.

Program Content

The program includes three main areas: the fundamentals of circus pedagogy, learning and teaching methods, and the technique and didactics of circus disciplines.

Participants discuss topics including session preparation, defining educational objectives, student motivation, group dynamics, and learning assessment.

The training also places great importance on artistic expression, creativity, social circus, and adapting activities to the abilities of the participants.

The technical modules include ground acrobatics, hand balances, aerial disciplines, juggling, duo acrobatics, human pyramids and balance techniques.

Teaching methods

The teaching combines theoretical courses, practical exercises, group work, individual reflection and homework completed between sessions.

Security

Safety is a cross-cutting theme, particularly concerning the use of equipment, anchor points and the organization of exercises.

Exchanges and professional networking

The training also encourages the exchange of experiences between teachers from different structures.

Participants can share their methods, discover new approaches and develop their professional network within the Finnish circus.

Validation and recognition

Attendance at all six sessions is mandatory to validate the training, which cannot be completed entirely remotely.

Under certain conditions, participants can obtain official registration of their training in the Finnish Oma Opintopolku register. This recognition notably requires the completion of 40 hours of pedagogical practice in a teaching setting.

Partners and scope of the initiative

Organised with the support of Kansalaisfoorumi , the training contributes to the development of teachers' professional skills and to the improvement of the educational quality of Finnish circus schools.

It represents an important initiative for the transmission of circus arts and the structuring of the associative and educational sector in Finland.
