L'Atelier du Trapèze is a circus school specializing in flying trapeze and aerial arts, located in Schaerbeek, in the Brussels-Capital Region.

The association was created in 1990 by Fill De Block and Nanou Peeters, then taken over in 2009 by Nicolas Eftimov.

For more than thirty years , she has been developing a teaching program dedicated to aerial disciplines and the various techniques of circus arts.

The Trapeze Workshop is recognized as a Centre for Expression and Creativity (CEC) by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. This recognition places its activity within a socio-cultural approach where technical learning is combined with creativity, artistic expression, and personal development.

The flying trapeze

The flying trapeze is one of the school's major specialties.

Children can start with the mini flying trapeze from the age of 8. This adapted setup allows them to gradually discover how to start from the platform, the rhythm of the swing and the first sensations characteristic of the flying trapeze.

The learning process takes place with a diving instructor who accompanies and ensures the safety of the participants.

From the age of 12 , students can discover the big steering wheel.

The classes welcome both beginners and trapeze artists who already have a basic understanding of the discipline. After a group warm-up, the work focuses on safety on the platform, the takeoff, the swing, and then gradually on figures and transitions.

Training sessions designed for advanced practitioners then allow them to deepen their technical repertoire and tackle more complex figures.

Fixed aerial arts

Fixed aerial arts constitute the other major component of the school.

Aerial silks is taught several days a week, with groups corresponding to different levels of practice.

The sessions begin with a warm-up and physical preparation before moving on to techniques, sequences, choreographic research and creativity.

Depending on the workshop, other apparatus may also be used, including rope , aerial hoop and fixed trapeze .

The multi-circus for children

However, the Trapeze Workshop is not limited to aerial disciplines.

A multi-circus program is offered specifically for children.

The 5-7 year old and 8-12 year old groups discover a wide variety of disciplines throughout the year.

  • aerial fabric
  • the fixed trapeze
  • acrobatics
  • juggling
  • the unicycle
  • the thread
  • the clownish game

The workshops begin with warm-up games that stimulate imagination, creativity and expression.

The children are then divided into different workshops to experiment with several families of circus techniques.

This organization allows you to discover the circus in all its diversity before possibly choosing a particular discipline.

Safety and education

The school places particular importance on safety .

Learning the techniques is accompanied by instruction devoted to safety rules, handling of equipment and different methods of defense.

The goal is to enable practitioners to gradually understand their work environment and become more autonomous in their practice.

The pedagogy also seeks to create a framework in which each participant can feel comfortable, gain confidence and find their place within the group.

The mixing of groups and the blending of disciplines are used as tools to promote encounters, mutual support and discovery.

The artistic dimension

The artistic dimension also plays an important role.

The facilitators encourage participants to develop their own imagination, explore different artistic languages, and participate in creative processes.

Learning, therefore, is not just about reproducing technical figures.

Practitioners are gradually invited to use the techniques acquired to construct movements, sequences and personal proposals.

Events such as open days and the workshop festival provide an opportunity to showcase the work done during the year and to create opportunities for interaction with the public.

Internships and independent training

L'Atelier du Trapèze also organizes introductory circus arts workshops during school holidays.

For practitioners who already have sufficient experience, an independent training area also allows them to work on different apparatus such as aerial silks, fixed trapeze, rope or hoop.

This possibility creates a continuity between initiation, regular learning and independent practice.

The 2026-2027 season

The 2026-2027 season includes multi-circus classes for children as well as numerous slots for small flying, large flying, aerial silks and acrobatics for teenagers and adults.

Thanks to this diversity, the Trapeze Workshop welcomes children discovering circus arts as well as beginner adults and experienced practitioners wishing to perfect an aerial discipline.

Its long history, its specialization in the flying trapeze, its status as a Centre for Expression and Creativity and the diversity of its teachings make it a particularly interesting structure in the landscape of Brussels circus schools.
