ZirkuTopia eV is an inclusive circus for children and teenagers based in Kassel, Hesse, Germany. The organization develops a circus pedagogy approach in which artistic practice is used as a means of connection, expression, creativity, and personal development. Inclusion is central to the entire project: activities aim to enable children and teenagers with diverse backgrounds and abilities to practice circus arts together.

ZirkuTopia has its own circus space at the Wilde Warte site in Kassel. The venue includes a dedicated circus hall, a large big top, a smaller second big top, and outdoor areas. This environment allows for year-round training, participatory activities, workshops, and full performances.

Regular groups and disciplines

The association offers several regular groups adapted to different age groups. Children can begin their circus journey very early with the parent-child circus program, accessible from the age of one when accompanied by a parent. Groups then welcome children aged 6 to 8, and then those aged 9 to 11. Teenagers can continue in a group from the age of 12 and, from the age of 14, join the Jugendvarieté program .

Participants can experience various circus disciplines, including juggling, unicycling, and acrobatics, as well as many other techniques depending on the group and project. No prior experience is necessary: the aim is precisely to allow everyone to discover the circus arts, try different practices, and then gradually develop the disciplines they enjoy.

Jugendvarieté offers teenagers aged 14 and over a space to further explore this approach. Young people can test and delve deeper into different disciplines and occasionally benefit from the guidance of specialists who teach them new techniques and support them in developing their own artistic ideas.

Creating shows

Creating shows is an important part of the project. Every year, the various groups of children and teenagers participate together in the Buntmausgala . The Jugendvarieté also prepares its own annual gala. These performances give the young artists the opportunity to transform the skills acquired during training into real acts and to experience performing on stage in front of an audience.

Open activities and holiday camps

In addition to group classes requiring registration, ZirkuTopia also offers open activities that allow people to discover the circus without prior commitment. A participatory session is offered specifically for children and teenagers aged 6 and up. These activities facilitate an initial introduction before potentially joining a regular group.

During school holidays, the association organizes various projects. The large inclusive Circus Camp is offered every year during the summer holidays to children and teenagers aged 6 and up. For one week, participants discover and practice circus arts before presenting the results of their work in final galas under the big top.

Inclusive holiday activities are also organised in cooperation with the Kultur- und Abenteuerspielplatz located on the same site. These activities combine circus arts and adventure and are open to children and teenagers from the age of 6.

International dimension

ZirkuTopia also has an international dimension. Inclusive gatherings bring together teenagers aged 14 and up with young people from other countries. The organization works in particular with its Spanish partner circus , El Quinto Pino . These gatherings allow the circus arts to be used as a common language and as a tool for intercultural exchange.

An inclusive pedagogy

Inclusion is the guiding principle behind all these activities. ZirkuTopia does not primarily seek performance or technical excellence. The goal is to create an environment in which everyone can feel comfortable, try new things, discover their abilities, and participate in a collective creation.

Circus arts education thus allows children to develop self-confidence, autonomy, creativity, cooperation, and the ability to gradually push their own limits. Each child or teenager can find a way to participate that corresponds to their abilities and desires.

With its weekly groups, its Jugendvarieté, its open activities, its holiday camps, its international meetings and its numerous performances, ZirkuTopia is today a true place for the practice and teaching of inclusive circus in Kassel, offering a path from early childhood to adolescence and young adults.
