Zirkus Fassungslos is a school and community circus school located in Havixbeck , North Rhine-Westphalia, near Münster.

The project is closely linked to the Anne-Frank-Gesamtschule in Havixbeck, where the circus has been part of the school's life since 1993 .

A school and an association

Over the years, Zirkus Fassungslos has become much more than just a school workshop. Today, activities are organized both within the school and by the Zirkus Fassungslos eV association, allowing external practitioners to also be welcomed.

Students at the Anne-Frank-Gesamtschule can participate in circus workshops organized during the week.

The youngest students have access to training dedicated to acrobatics , while a circus workshop allows students to regularly practice different techniques.

Zirkus Fassungslos also develops an activity in Münster , with a workshop organized at the Mathilde-Anneke-Gesamtschule .

In addition to school workshops, the association offers open practice sessions accessible to its members.

These training sessions allow teenagers and adults to practice together and to delve deeper into the disciplines that interest them.

A multidisciplinary approach to circus arts

The project is based on a deliberately multidisciplinary approach to circus arts.

Juggling plays an important role in the activities offered.

Practitioners can also work on different forms of balance and develop their body control.

Acrobatics is another major focus of the project and is the subject of specific training for the youngest students.

The trapeze is also one of the disciplines practiced within Zirkus Fassungslos.

Throughout its history, the group has also developed acts around slapstick and clowning .

This diversity allows participants to experience several facets of the circus and to gradually build their own practice.

A philosophy based on experimentation

Zirkus Fassungslos's philosophy is largely based on experimentation .

Participants are encouraged to try different apparatus, techniques and movement ideas in order to discover the disciplines that suit them.

The training sessions bring together young people and adults, thus promoting the transmission of knowledge between practitioners with different levels of experience.

People outside of the Anne-Frank-Gesamtschule can also discover the structure.

The association offers, among other things, the opportunity to participate in a trial training session before considering membership in Zirkus Fassungslos eV

A strong scenic dimension

The project also has a strong stage dimension.

Each year, the young people present their work during shows organized in the school or at public events.

A large circus gala is one of the regular events linked to the project.

The shows allow participants to transform the techniques learned during training into real performances presented in front of an audience.

The Elevention Convention

Zirkus Fassungslos also organizes an annual circus convention .

In 2026 , the Elevention convention took place in Münster and brought together jugglers, acrobats, unicyclists and other practitioners of circus arts.

The convention operates in a participatory spirit: participants can themselves propose and lead workshops, share their techniques and train together.

An open stage also allows artists and practitioners to present their work.

Openness and exchanges

Zirkus Fassungslos has long been developing an openness towards other circus groups.

The project specifically sought to promote European exchanges between young practitioners, with the idea of bringing together teenagers from different countries around a common training and the collective creation of a show.

This dimension of exchange corresponds to the identity of the project: the circus is used as much as an artistic and sporting practice as a tool for meeting .

The association is also integrated into the regional circus pedagogy network and is among the members of the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Zirkuspädagogik Nordrhein-Westfalen .

A particular model of circus school

Zirkus Fassungslos thus presents a particular model of circus school.

Its operation lies at the intersection of a school circus, an amateur practice association, and a community of jugglers and acrobats open to exchange.

With over thirty years of existence , weekly workshops, open training sessions, shows and an annual convention, Zirkus Fassungslos constitutes a sustainable structure for the transmission and practice of circus arts in the Havixbeck and Münster region.
