Zirkus Mugg is a circus arts activity and education center located in Betschwanden, in the Swiss canton of Glarus. Situated in a mountain environment, the center has a genuine circus village that can accommodate children, young people, school groups, and various other audiences for immersive experiences in the circus arts.

Unlike a traditional circus school operating exclusively with weekly classes, Zirkus Mugg develops an approach based on internships , residential camps , collective projects and the discovery of circus life.

His village includes accommodation caravans, communal spaces, training facilities, a communal kitchen and marquees to organize the various activities.

This environment allows participants to discover circus arts while sharing a genuine group life experience.

School trips

School trips are an important part of the educational project.

Classes can come and spend several days in the village and participate in a program specifically dedicated to discovering the circus.

The students are supervised by circus educators who guide them in the progressive learning of different techniques.

Juggling, in particular, occupies an important place among the activities offered.

Participants can also discover unicycling , tightrope walking and various disciplines requiring coordination, concentration and body control.

The facilities also allow for the exploration of aerial techniques, including the trapeze , as well as various forms of acrobatics.

The goal is not just to learn isolated figures, but to allow each participant to find a discipline that interests them and in which they can progress.

Collective work is an essential element of this approach.

During their stays, the children learn to help each other, to respect each other's abilities, and to gradually build a common artistic project.

The internships can notably lead to the preparation of a performance .

Participants then discover the different stages necessary to create a show: training, choice of disciplines, rehearsals, collective organization and presentation in front of an audience.

This experience allows them to better understand the reality of circus work, while developing self-confidence , creativity and team spirit .

Summer camps

Zirkus Mugg also organizes camps during school holidays.

Some take the form of residential stays during which young people live directly in the village caravans.

The organization also develops tour camps offering a particularly immersive experience.

During these stays, participants leave their usual daily routine to live at the pace of a troupe, with regular training, collective living and activities related to artistic preparation.

The circus thus becomes a true living environment and no longer just an activity practiced for a few hours.

Workshops and interventions

Shorter introductory sessions are also offered to different audiences.

These workshops allow participants to discover juggling, unicycling, balancing and other disciplines without necessarily participating in a full stay.

Zirkus Mugg also participates in school activities, events and holiday programs organized by external partners.

The association thus develops an accessible approach, in which circus arts become a support for learning , bodily discovery and encounter .

A unique environment

The village environment is an important feature of the project.

The caravans, the big tops and the common areas make it possible to recreate the atmosphere of a travelling circus while having a fixed place dedicated to welcoming and transmitting.

Zirkus Mugg thus combines circus pedagogy , collective living , accommodation and artistic creation .

With its camps, school trips, introductory workshops and touring projects, the structure is an interesting option for families, schools and groups wishing to discover circus arts in Switzerland in a setting different from a traditional school.
