On a Golo-type devil stick, the tips have a role of protecting the ends. In case of wear, it is advisable to change them in order to slow down the wear of your stick. These tips also have a role of grip, which allows a good grip of the ends of the stick between the fingers.
The thickness and flexibility of the grip also give it a slight role of shock absorber when the stick comes into contact with the ground or your head :-).
