Adaptation to hand size: The block offered here (13 cm × 10 cm × 3 cm) is specifically adapted to the hands of medium to large adults (hand width between 8.5 and 9.8 cm measured at the metacarpals). It offers an optimal support surface and comfortable leverage for crocheting with the fingers.
Summary table of block sizes
This chart will help you choose the right block size based on hand width. Please note: the block sold on this page only fits the bold line below (medium to large hands).
| Audience | Hand width | Block width | Length | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Child | 5.5 to 7.5 cm | 7 to 8.5 cm | 10 to 12 cm | 3 to 4 cm |
| Little hands | ≤ 8.5 cm | 8 to 9 cm | 12 to 13 cm | 4 to 5 cm |
| Adults (medium/large hands) | 8.5 to 9.8 cm | 9 to 10 cm | 13 cm | 3 cm |
A slightly thicker block is recommended for smaller hands because it reduces wrist flexion, makes it easier to hook the fingers onto the front edge, and improves overall comfort. This extra height also compensates for the smaller contact surface of a smaller hand and provides a better feeling of stability. It is therefore a good compromise when keeping a width close to the standard while trying to adapt the material to smaller hands.
Tips for choosing block sizes
Measure the width of your hand (flat, across the knuckles). Add about 0.5 to 1 cm to get the ideal block width. For most adults, this corresponds to a block width of 9 to 10 cm, like the one suggested here.
For children or smaller hands, narrower blocks (7 to 9 cm) are recommended. For larger hands, some may prefer slightly longer or thicker blocks to increase support.
Availability and customization
Currently, the manufacturer does not offer other block sizes. For smaller hands, you will need to adapt the blocks by cutting them (woodworking) or make your own blocks and drill them to fit the supplied bases.
NetJuggler Info:
A more economical solution than buying a complete podium that we offer... A little DIY is required :-) Or simply to complete a complete kit that you already have.
Maintenance information
On the base where the rod is positioned, the assembly is held in place by a bolt that can be seen in the photos. If you are regularly assembling and disassembling this part, it is necessary to be perfectly straight when tightening and loosening, otherwise you risk damaging the female thread on the base.
This problem can indeed occur if the screwing is not done perfectly straight, especially because we use high-quality aluminum for the manufacture of the bases. The combination of bolt steel and aluminum can be sensitive, especially if tightening is not done carefully.
As a scheduled maintenance, you may need to redo the female thread directly on the teps base in due course. This repair can be done yourself if you have the necessary equipment, or at a bicycle repair shop or auto repair shop. If you have a friend who does DIY, they could also help you.
I want to point out that this type of repair is not covered by the warranty. However, thread maintenance is a relatively simple procedure that you may need to perform from time to time.
