This rola bola (also called rolla bolla or American roller) is made in Italy. This kit from the Play Juggling brand includes a sturdy plywood board and a roller equipped with rubber bands.

The principle of rola bola is simple to understand: standing on a board placed on a roller, you try to maintain your balance by controlling lateral movements. The grooves in the board improve grip underfoot, while the two rubber bands on the roller provide traction between the two elements and help keep the movement aligned. A fun exercise in coordination, concentration, and motor skills, popular in circus schools and at home, it should be practiced with appropriate safety precautions.

Rola bola is a balancing discipline that allows you to feel your first progress quite quickly. To begin, we recommend placing the roller on a firm circus mat, possibly doubled if the setup is stable: this slows its movement. Keep your knees bent, look straight ahead, and fix your gaze on a stationary point in the distance. Position yourself facing a stable support or have someone stand in front of you, never to the side. Caution: a loss of balance can cause the board to move suddenly. Even when the first attempts become easy, stay focused and don't rush things. This model is suitable for introductory workshops, families, and more experienced practitioners, provided they receive appropriate supervision.
