The Tremplin program at the Balthazar Circus Arts Centre in Montpellier is an intensive preparatory course for artists wishing to build a genuine professional project in the circus arts. Designed as a stepping stone to preparatory schools and higher artistic training, it allows each participant to develop their technical, physical, and artistic skills while benefiting from individualized support.
Organized over nine months, from September 14, 2026 to June 30, 2027, the program comprises approximately 770 hours of instruction, or nearly 24 hours of classes per week. The workload is progressive to adapt to each student's development, with regular monitoring provided by the teaching team.
The main objective of this preparatory year is to help each participant define their personal project and acquire the skills necessary to succeed in entrance exams for preparatory schools or to pursue artistic studies in the field of circus arts. The support provided is tailored to each individual, constantly linking technical training with artistic creation in order to best meet the needs and aspirations of each participant.
The teaching methods alternate between practical lessons, artistic simulations, creative time, and independent practice. Students thus develop their autonomy, creativity, and ability to thrive in a professional environment.
The weekly program is particularly comprehensive and includes 7 hours of physical preparation, balance and flexibility, 3 hours of ground acrobatics, 2 hours of dance and movement, 1 hour 30 minutes of acting, 6 hours devoted to the chosen circus specialty, 1 hour of theory classes as well as 1 hour of independent training.
Beyond technical instruction, the program offers numerous supplementary educational opportunities. Students are supported in preparing their applications to preparatory schools, discover the technical aspects of live performance through the erection of big tops and practical stage management, participate in multidisciplinary workshops, and enrich their artistic culture through visits to exhibitions, cultural venues, and film screenings.
Artistic guidance also plays a vital role. Participants take part in two collective creations, work on scenography and staging, create individual pieces, and regularly present their work at showcases or occasional external performances. This immersion in a genuine creative process allows them to develop their artistic skills, autonomy, and stage experience.
Progress is assessed throughout the year through continuous evaluation, tests in various disciplines, a self-assessment each term, and a final assessment covering the entire program. Results can be viewed via Hyperplanning, while the assessment binder is available in the art training offices.
Admission to the training program is subject to several conditions. Candidates must complete an application form, submit a video application, provide a medical certificate authorizing intensive practice, present an electrocardiogram with a compatible report, and demonstrate sufficient proficiency in French to follow the instruction and participate in the selection days. After admission, they will also be required to provide a spinal X-ray with a compatible report.
Prospective students must be able to live independently, manage their daily lives, and ensure their own medical care. Applicants from countries outside the European Union must have a valid residence permit and health insurance equivalent to the French social security system.
