With Slips Inside, the Belgian company OKIDOK presents a contemporary circus show that is as irresistible as it is virtuosic, where clowning, acrobatics, and physical theatre converge in a completely visual performance. Without uttering a single word, Xavier Bouvier and Benoît Devos deliver a veritable hour-long festival of gags, physical feats, and absurd situations that appeal to both children and adults.

On stage appear Billy and Piotre, two wannabe athletes convinced they embody masculine perfection. In their eyes, they possess dream bodies: muscular, elegant, powerful, and irresistible. Proud of their supposed qualities, they embark on a grand demonstration of their talents. But behind this overblown self-confidence hide two profoundly clumsy characters whose every attempt to shine turns into a hilarious disaster.

Through a series of burlesque scenes, the two artists cleverly subvert all the clichés of masculinity. Heroic poses become ridiculous, displays of strength end in failure, macho attitudes are pushed to the point of absurdity, and sporting feats are transformed into an avalanche of perfectly orchestrated blunders. Every movement, every glance, and every silence contributes to a universal humor that requires no words to make us laugh.

The show is based on an impressive mastery of circus arts. The two performers seamlessly blend spectacular acrobatic lifts, precise balancing acts, controlled falls, stunts, mime, and numerous physical clown sequences where every detail is meticulously choreographed. Their rapport, forged over many years of creating together, allows them to alternate between technical virtuosity and comedy with remarkable fluidity.

OKIDOK's humor works on several levels. Children laugh at the absurd situations, the grimaces, and the clumsiness, while adults discover a subtle satire of the codes of masculinity, the cult of performance, ego, and displays of power. The duo constantly plays with the gap between the heroic image Billy and Piotre try to project and the reality of their repeated failures, creating a comedy that is as tender as it is effective.

The deliberately minimalist set design gives free rein to the performers' performances. A few props, wooden crates, a few stage elements, and understated lighting are all it takes to create a world where anything can become a source of laughter. Silence plays a crucial role in the staging: a simple exchange of glances, a moment of hesitation, or an improbable posture often elicits as much laughter as a spectacular acrobatic feat.

Created and performed by Xavier Bouvier and Benoît Devos, Slips Inside has become one of the emblematic shows of contemporary European clowning. Since its creation, it has been presented in numerous festivals and theaters in France and internationally, where it enjoys consistent success with audiences.

The artistic quality of the show has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Annie Fratellini Trophy at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain, the Charlie Rivel Prize at the Copenhagen International Clown Festival, and the Grand Jury Prize at the Milan International Clown Festival. These awards attest to the company's originality and exceptional expertise in the art of physical clowning.

The press regularly praises the duo's work. France 2 describes Slips Inside as a "painful spectacle for the cheekbones", while Le Nouvel Observateur evokes "an absolutely irresistible pair of clowns", highlighting the precision of their acting and their ability to make people laugh without ever uttering a single word.

Presented at the Espace Malraux Auditorium in Joué-lès-Tours on Saturday, January 23, 2027, Slips Inside promises an evening filled with laughter, physical performance, and burlesque poetry. Thanks to its universal language, the show appeals to all audiences, regardless of their language or culture. Blending contemporary circus, physical theatre, mime, clowning, and acrobatics, OKIDOK offers an hour of entertainment where technical virtuosity always serves the comedy, resulting in a generous, accessible, and thoroughly enjoyable show.
