During this one-hour workshop, children become little researchers and experience firsthand the amazing properties of soap through an approach based on manipulation, observation, and play.
The activity begins with a discovery of foam. Participants learn how it is formed through the combination of soap and air, then experiment themselves by blowing into their own cup to understand the role of each of the elements necessary for its production.
The experiments continued with a surprising phenomenon involving pepper floating on the surface of water. By adding a single drop of soap, the children watched as the pepper instantly floated away. This spectacular experiment provided a very accessible introduction to the concept of surface tension, a fundamental physical phenomenon that also explains the formation of soap bubbles.
The workshop then invites young participants to unleash their creativity through an experiment combining milk and soap. The colors move, blend, and create beautiful patterns in motion, illustrating the surfactant properties of soap while offering a moment that is both artistic and scientific.
