From July 3rd to 10th, 2027, the city of Vichy, in the heart of the Allier department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, will host the European Ultimate Championships 2027 (EUC 2027), the most prestigious European Ultimate Frisbee competition between national teams. For eight days, the continent's best teams will gather in France to compete for European titles in the Open, Women's, and Mixed divisions, offering a sporting spectacle of exceptional quality where speed, precision, strategy, physical commitment, and sportsmanship will all be on display.

This 17th edition of the European Championships is organized by the European Ultimate Federation (EUF) in collaboration with the European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF), the French Flying Disc Federation (FFFD), and the local organizing committee. The choice of Vichy as the host city represents significant recognition for France and for the quality of the bid submitted by the French organizers, who successfully convinced the EUF in the face of particularly stiff competition. The organization is led by Amandine Constant, the local tournament director, and Ludovic Romano, president of the French Flying Disc Federation, with the support of a team already possessing extensive experience in major international events, notably during the organization of the 2017 World Beach Ultimate Championships in Royan.

The championship will take place at the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Omnisports Park in Vichy, where all the competition pitches will be located in one place. This setup will allow teams, referees, officials, volunteers, media, and spectators to enjoy a particularly smooth and user-friendly event. Vichy's nationally renowned sports facilities offer high-quality pitches, numerous reception areas, and ample accommodation in the immediate vicinity. The organizers are also highlighting the many activities available in the spa town and its surroundings to make this week of sport a truly international experience, both on and off the field.

The 2027 edition holds special significance as France once again hosts the European Championships, several decades after organizing the competition's first editions. It also comes at a particularly favorable time for the French team, who are the reigning European champions in the Mixed division, a title they secured at the 2023 European Championships in Limerick, Ireland. Expectations will therefore be especially high for the French teams competing in front of their home crowd.

The European Ultimate Championships bring together the best European nations in three official divisions: Open, Women, and Mixed. Throughout the week, national teams will compete in group stages, followed by placement matches and the finals, which will crown the new European champions. The matches will feature some of the continent's best players, offering a particularly high level of play. Spectators will witness clashes that combine speed, endurance, tactical intelligence, passing accuracy, athleticism, and teamwork.

Ultimate Frisbee possesses a unique characteristic among team sports: the renowned Spirit of the Game. This founding principle is based on mutual respect, honesty, fair play, and player responsibility, with players traditionally practicing self-officiating at the highest levels of competition. This sporting philosophy is one of the discipline's core values and an integral part of the European Championships. Beyond the pursuit of performance, the event will therefore also highlight respect for opponents, cooperation between teams, and the human values that have made Ultimate famous worldwide.

The organizers hope to make this edition a benchmark for future European championships. Enhanced media coverage will be deployed with the support of the European Ultimate Federation to ensure wide broadcast of the matches and introduce Ultimate Frisbee to an ever-growing audience. Broadcasts, reports, photographs, and digital content will showcase the sporting achievements while contributing to the development of Flying Disc in France and throughout Europe.

Welcoming the delegations is also a priority. Hundreds of athletes, coaches, medical staff, officials, volunteers, journalists, and fans from all over Europe are expected in Vichy. Thanks to its significant accommodation capacity, modern infrastructure, numerous restaurants, green spaces, and experience in organizing international events, the city offers a particularly suitable setting for a championship of this scale. The organizers aim to provide a high-quality experience both on the field and in all aspects of the participants' daily lives.

National federations follow a specific schedule for registration. Pre-registration opened on July 15, 2026, allowing teams to confirm their interest, review participation fees, and explore the various accommodation options available. Pre-registration closes on September 1, 2026, followed by team fee payment before October 1, 2026, which officially confirms the participation of qualified nations. Player rosters must then be submitted in spring 2027 before the final payment, due on May 30, 2027, a few weeks before the start of the competition.

The participation fee is €1,500 per team, plus approximately €250 per player and a guest pass of around €200 for accompanying persons. These amounts cover the costs of the sporting organization, infrastructure, services offered to delegations, and the smooth running of the event.

Vichy boasts excellent accessibility. The SNCF train station, located approximately four kilometers from the competition venue, offers direct connections to Paris in about three hours, Lyon in about two and a half hours, and Clermont-Ferrand in under forty minutes. The airports of Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon Saint-Exupéry, and Paris also allow international delegations to easily reach the city. Motorists can access the championship via the A71 and A75 motorways, making Vichy a convenient destination from across France and many European countries.

The European Ultimate Championships have a rich history that has accompanied the development of the sport for over forty years. The first edition took place in Paris in 1980, where Finland won the first Open division title. Two years later, in 1982 in Austria, Finland also won the first women's championship. The Mixed category was introduced in 2003, with the edition hosted in France and won by Great Britain. Since then, the European Championships have continued to grow, bringing together more and more nations and offering a constantly improving level of competition. After the 2019 edition in Győr, where France finished as runners-up in Mixed, and then the 2023 edition in Limerick, where the French team won the European Mixed title, the return of the competition to France is a powerful symbol for the entire European Ultimate community.

The European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) oversees the development of all Flying Disc disciplines in Europe and promotes them at major international multi-sport events. The European Ultimate Federation (EUF), on the other hand, is specifically responsible for the development, promotion, and organization of Ultimate Frisbee on the continent. In France, the French Flying Disc Federation (FFFD) structures the practice of Ultimate and Disc Golf. It currently has over 7,000 members, including approximately 630 Disc Golf players, and continues to experience significant growth thanks to the development of youth programs and numerous partnerships established with school sports.

The 2027 European Ultimate Championships are shaping up to be one of the biggest European events dedicated to flying disc sports. With top-level competition, modern facilities, an international welcome, exemplary sporting values, and a focus on the Spirit of the Game, Vichy is preparing to become the European capital of Ultimate Frisbee for a week. The organizers intend to offer players, volunteers, media, and the thousands of expected spectators a memorable event that will contribute significantly to the development of this spectacular sport in France and throughout Europe.
