On Thursday, February 4, 2027, at 8:30 p.m., the Théâtre Jacques Carat in Cachan, Val-de-Marne, presents Heka – Tout n'est qu'un faux-semblant (It's All Just a Deception), a creation by the renowned British company Gandini Juggling. For approximately one hour, contemporary juggling and new magic meet in a visual, virtuoso, funny, and delightfully disorienting show, suitable for audiences aged 8 and up.
When juggling meets magic ✨
Magic or juggling? In Heka, the line between the two is deliberately blurred. Objects fly, appear, disappear, float, multiply, change color, or simply seem to defy the usual laws of reality.
The show's title refers to Heka, an Egyptian deity associated with magic. Gandini Juggling uses this imagery to question our perception: is what we think we see actually happening?
On stage, balls, rings, hands, bodies, and props become the elements of a choreography where juggling and illusion intertwine. The performers play with counterpoint, diversion, anticipation, delay, repetition, and changes of rhythm to deceive the viewer's eye.
Balls seem to vanish mid-movement, objects appear unexpectedly, rings seem to levitate, and props transform in a succession of visual tableaux. The show doesn't simply juxtapose a juggling act and a magic trick: the two disciplines are truly intertwined to create a shared stage language.
A meticulously choreographed juggling routine
Heka's strength also lies in the collective work characteristic of Gandini Juggling. The jugglers play with group formations, object trajectories, and the synchronization of movements to compose a true juggling ballet.
Technical virtuosity is constantly subverted by humor, playfulness, and absurdity. Behind the apparent mathematical precision of the trajectories, unexpected and sometimes downright ludicrous situations emerge.
The result is a succession of hypnotic scenes in which the audience eventually loses track of what is juggling technique, trickery, magic, or optical illusion.

Founded in 1992 by Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala, Gandini Juggling has become one of the leading companies in contemporary juggling. For over thirty years, it has explored the relationships between juggling and other artistic disciplines, including dance, theatre, visual arts and, with Heka, magic.
The British company has given more than 6,000 performances in some fifty countries. Its work consists as much of celebrating juggling as it does of exploring what it can become when it encounters other art forms.
After notably making apples, oranges and watermelons fly in the now famous Smashed, Gandini Juggling continues his research around object manipulation by plunging his choreographic vocabulary into the world of illusion.
A creation with Yann Frisch and Kalle Nio
To explore this encounter between juggling and magic, Gandini Juggling surrounded itself with illusion specialists.
The creation benefits in particular from the perspective of Yann Frisch, a major figure in French new magic, as well as the Finnish magician and artist Kalle Nio, both credited as magic consultants for the show.
Their collaboration with Gandini Juggling allows them to deconstruct certain classic mechanisms of prestidigitation in order to reinvent them through the manipulation of objects and choreographic movement.
The show also plays with traditional magic conventions and stereotypes, particularly the portrayal of women as mere assistants to the magician. Heka prefers to redistribute these roles and transform the mechanisms of illusion into a collective experience.
