On Saturday, November 28, 2026, the Théâtre Jean Marais in Saint-Fons invites young and old to a day entirely dedicated to young audiences, the circus, and the discovery of juggling. The program includes a hands-on workshop, family activities, brunch, and a contemporary circus performance of "De la nécessité de la gravité" (On the Necessity of Gravity), a creation by Compagnie OPOPOP.
🤹 A free workshop to discover juggling
The day begins at 10:30 am with a Juggling Discovery Workshop, led by the artistic team of the OPOPOP Company.
For 1 hour 30 minutes, children and adults can discover and explore together the basics of juggling through different objects and techniques: balls, bouncing balls, scarves, plastic bags, rings, hula hoops and object balancing.
Accessible from age 6, the workshop is free on reservation and allows you to playfully learn about several forms of object manipulation before experiencing the company's world on stage a few hours later.
🎪 A day for young audiences at the Théâtre Jean Marais
The workshop is part of a family day organized by the Théâtre Jean Marais. From 10:30 am to 2 pm, the public is invited to play, create, dream and discover the circus arts through various activities offered free of charge.
A family brunch is also organised from 12pm to 2pm.
The La Bougeotte bookstore will be present before and after the performance, while a syrup-based aperitif will allow families to extend the moment after the show.
🎭 On the necessity of gravity
At 2 p.m., the show "De la nécessité de la gravité" (On the Necessity of Gravity) will take place, a creation by Compagnie OPOPOP mixing circus, juggling, object theatre, scenography and humour.
Imagine a perfectly tidy little house and a juggler quietly trying to live her life there. But her daily routine gradually begins to unravel. Unexpected events unfold one after another, and even gravity itself seems to malfunction.
Faced with this world that is faltering, human beings nevertheless continue to struggle, adapt, and rise again.
Through this visual and poetic fable, Karen Bourre and Julien Lanaud humorously and lightly question our ability to continue our habits even as our environment transforms.
The disruption of gravity thus becomes a metaphor for climate change. Without moralizing, the show addresses contemporary ecological upheavals by creating a dialogue between absurd situations, object manipulation, juggling, and a visual universe.
The setting plays a full part in the story: a small house set up on stage gradually becomes the playground of a world where the usual rules no longer seem to apply.
The juggler adapts with humor and panache to the disruptions that upset her daily life, without always being aware of the impact of her own lifestyle on what surrounds her.
Between surrealism and reality, dream and nightmare, poetry and humor, the OPOPOP Company offers a contemporary circus show capable of addressing an essential question of our time while retaining the wonder and fantasy inherent in the circus arts.
👨👩👧 A family show for ages 6 and up
The show "De la nécessité de la gravité" is offered at the Théâtre Jean Marais for ages 6 and up and lasts approximately 55 minutes.
For several years, Compagnie OPOPOP has been developing a visual and poetic universe in which juggling, object manipulation, theatre, and live scenography converge. This creation, created in 2021, continues this exploration by placing juggling at the heart of a fictional narrative about the climate emergency.
