The Compagnie de l'Envol invites clown enthusiasts to a new season of clown workshops and weekends in the Drôme region for 2026-2027. From November 2026 to July 2027, six workshops will explore different facets of the clowning world in Saillans and Allex, near Crest.
Open to those wishing to discover their inner clown as well as experienced performers, these workshops are organized in small groups of approximately 12 participants. Depending on the workshop, two or three actresses and clowns guide the group in a practice where play, improvisation, body, emotions, voice, imagination, and letting go play a vital role.
The season will begin on November 14th and 15th, 2026, at Château Pergaud in Allex with "Activist Clown," led by Eva Seite, Marie-France Duflot, and Nina Le Guermeve. This weekend will explore how clowning can offer a fresh perspective on the world, society, and forms of activism. This inaugural event features a pay-what-you-can pricing structure, with a minimum donation of €20 for the venue. Accommodation is also available for an additional fee.
On December 12th and 13th, 2026, the program will continue in Saillans with Clown and Theatre of the Oppressed, led by Anne Boucard, Eva Seite, and Julie Delforge. The event will take place between the multipurpose hall and the village hall, and will explore the interplay between clowning techniques and tools from the Theatre of the Oppressed.
Emotions will then be at the heart of the weekend of January 23 and 24, 2027, with "The Emotions of the Clown – Part 1," led by Anne Boucard, Nina Le Guermeve, and Vinciane De Smet at the Saillans community hall. The clown, in fact, offers a wonderful space for exploring emotions, making them visible, and transforming them into playful expression.
On February 13th and 14th, 2027, Gissa Brun-Pinel and Marie-France Duflot will present "The Words of the Clown," again at the multipurpose hall in Saillans. This workshop will explore the unique relationship that the clown character has with words, speech, and play.
A second stage dedicated to emotions is scheduled for April 3 and 4, 2027. Entitled Even more emotions from the clown – 2, this weekend will be led by Claire Moreau and Vinciane De Smet in Saillans.
Finally, the season will conclude with a five-day clowning workshop from July 10th to 14th, 2027. The exact theme is still listed as "under consideration" on the program, and the location is yet to be determined. Marie-France Duflot is among the instructors. Those interested are invited to contact the company for final details.
The teaching method developed by Compagnie de l'Envol prioritizes the joy of playing above all else. Physical and vocal games, concentration exercises, imagination, letting go, sensory exploration, listening, and improvisation gradually lead each participant to discover and embody their own clown. The exploration focuses particularly on spontaneity, naivety, the expression of emotions, the five senses, and relationships with partners and the group.
The company aims to make its workshops accessible to a range of budgets and therefore offers three pricing options to suit different means. For two days, the fees are €80, €110, or €140; for three days, €120, €165, or €210; and for five days, €200, €275, or €350. A membership fee of at least €1 is requested during the first weekend.
The workshops are non-residential, but the company can help people coming from afar find accommodation with friends or fellow clowns. Meals are organized as potlucks, reinforcing the friendly and communal atmosphere of these weekends.
A season rich in clowning experiences, emotions, encounters, and laughter, designed for those who wish to discover clowning or continue their practice in a playful and supportive atmosphere in the heart of the Drôme region. 🤡
