UNIC27 – The Unicycle Challenge 2027 is the next big project of Ride4Change VZW, a Belgian association that transforms the practice of long-distance unicycling into a sporting and solidarity challenge to benefit the fight against pediatric cancer.

The event is part of an adventure that began in late 2023 around an idea that is as simple as it is ambitious: to travel long distances on a single wheel and to use this feat to mobilize participants, supporters, donors and the public around a common cause.

The project began on December 27, 2023, when Jonas challenged himself to ride 50 kilometers on a unicycle. This initial personal idea quickly grew. On August 31, 2024, Ride4Change officially launched with its first major 100-kilometer unicycle ride, laying the foundation for what would become the association and its annual event.

The adventure then took off. For the August 16, 2025 edition, Ride4Change collaborated with a funfair to offer a unique finish line in the heart of the fairground village. This edition also marked its first international outing with the participation of unicyclists from the Netherlands.

For 2026, the project has grown even larger. The traditional 100km ride was organized on August 15th, starting from the Grote Markt in Dendermonde, with a scheduled departure time of 7 a.m. Most importantly, Ride4Change added a new option: a 150km ride designed for larger unicycles, offering an even greater endurance challenge for experienced riders.

This evolution helps to better understand the ambition of UNIC27: to gradually grow an event born from a personal challenge into a true gathering around long-distance unicycling, capable of bringing together practitioners beyond the Belgian borders.

Unlike a traditional competition, the spirit of Ride4Change isn't about finding a winner. The organization clearly presents its 100km challenge as an annual unicycle ride, completed in a single day to raise money for a good cause. The slogan for the 2026 edition perfectly encapsulated this philosophy: it's not about competing against each other, but about pedaling together for others.

UNIC27 should therefore be of particular interest to enthusiasts of road unicycling, big-wheel unicycling, and long-distance riding. Here, there's no freestyle, trials, or trick competitions: the main challenge is endurance, the ability to cover several dozen – or even more than a hundred – kilometers on a single wheel, and above all, the collective experience created along the way.

❤️ Unicycling to fight childhood cancer

The charitable aspect is at the heart of the project.

Ride4Change organizes its challenges to benefit KickCancer, an organization dedicated to research into pediatric cancers. For the 2026 edition, Ride4Change specified that the proceeds would go directly to KickCancer. The official fundraising page described the project as an adventure combining challenge, perseverance, hope, and solidarity, built around an exceptional 100-kilometer unicycle ride.

KickCancer funds scientific research projects aimed at finding new treatments and improving existing ones. The organization also supports international academic clinical trials and conducts awareness and advocacy campaigns to accelerate research on pediatric cancers.

KickCancer points out that around 35,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in Europe each year and specifically encourages the creation of sporting challenges that bring together participants, families, friends and donors to fund research.

Ride4Change participants are therefore not just riding to achieve a personal best. Each kilometer also becomes a way to raise awareness for the cause and generate donations.

During the 2026 campaign, several ways to participate were highlighted: completing the 100 kilometers, financially supporting a unicyclist, or simply spreading the word about the initiative. This philosophy should naturally remain central to the UNIC27 project, even if the precise fundraising methods for 2027 are yet to be confirmed.

🚴 100 km and 150 km: a true endurance challenge

The sporting heart of Ride4Change now rests on two particularly impressive distances: 100 km and 150 km on a unicycle.

To give an idea of the scale of the challenge, the 100km course in 2026 was announced as a fully planned 100-kilometre loop, the map of which was to be unveiled a few weeks before the event.

The 150km distance naturally represents an additional level, especially for unicyclists used to large wheels and long distances.

Beyond physical fitness, such distances demand genuine preparation: endurance, effort management, comfort on the unicycle, and the ability to maintain focus for many hours. This places Ride4Change in a rather unusual category among European unicycling gatherings.

The goal, however, is not to establish a traditional ranking. Ride4Change's identity is based more on collective achievement and solidarity than on performance compared to other participants.

🌍 An adventure that's going international

The arrival of the first Dutch participants in 2025 represents a significant step in this evolution. Ride4Change clearly no longer wants to remain solely a local challenge: the goal is to gradually develop the event and attract unicyclists from diverse backgrounds.

This is precisely what makes UNIC27 particularly interesting for the NetJuggler Agenda: it is an event situated at the crossroads of a unicyclist gathering, an endurance challenge, and a charity event.

For those accustomed to juggling and unicycle conventions, UNIC27 offers a very different experience: spending a whole day on one wheel, sharing the effort with other enthusiasts and transforming sporting performance into a concrete way to support research against pediatric cancer.
