Juggling, Flow Art & Fire Training 2026-2027 – Compagnie Libellune in Lutzelhouse

Compagnie Libellune offers an intensive training course in Alsace dedicated to juggling, Flow Art and fire manipulation, organized in Lutzelhouse in the Bas-Rhin during the 2026-2027 season. Spread over four weekends between October 2026 and April 2027, this course allows you to work simultaneously on three emblematic apparatus of Flow Art: the bolas, the staff and the double staff.

The training is intentionally open to a very wide audience. It is aimed at complete beginners, who have never handled Flow Art apparatus before, as well as experienced jugglers and performing arts professionals wishing to refine their skills. The group is limited to only 10 people, a choice made to preserve the quality of instruction and the availability of the instructors. The training sessions are led by professional artists from Compagnie Libellune, an Alsatian company specializing in juggling and fire arts. The company states that its artists practice the disciplines taught professionally and have more than ten years of experience in fire arts.

The goal is not simply to learn a series of tricks. The curriculum aims to build a sufficiently solid technical foundation to allow the juggler to move freely in 360°, to move and dance while maintaining clean planes and fluid manipulation. The work focuses particularly on spinning in different directions, mastering planes, changes of rhythm, movement, spin and anti-spin, coordination, and the connection between the body and the object.

A unique aspect of this training is that it incorporates working with bolas, staffs, and double staffs over the course of a single weekend, rather than dedicating each session to a single apparatus. Compagnie Libellune explains that quickly transferring the same movement from one object to another helps develop a better understanding of body mechanics. This method aims to develop proprioception, adaptation, coordination, and a stronger body-object connection, while avoiding limiting learning to a mere collection of tricks.

The artistic dimension also plays a significant role. Choreographic creation modules are integrated into the various weekends to provide tools for quickly developing choreography, whether solo, in duets, or in groups. Participants work on movement in all directions, improvisation, dance with apparatus, and how to integrate technical movements into a cohesive stage performance. The ultimate goal is to acquire a sufficiently robust vocabulary to more easily tackle advanced figures and develop their own style.

Each weekend comprises 13.5 hours of instruction, with approximately 12 hours dedicated to Flow Art and 1.5 hours to fire work. On Saturdays, Flow Art sessions are scheduled from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and then from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The evening continues from 8:30 PM to 9:00 PM with fire safety training, followed by a fire jam from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM. On Sundays, workshops resume from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and then from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

The fire training session provides the essential safety knowledge needed for practice. To participate in the jam, trainees must bring appropriate clothing: 100% cotton or wool garments, as well as hair protection such as a hat or cotton triangular scarf. Comfortable clothing is recommended for the rest of the training. Participants who already own their own bolas, staffs, or double staffs are welcome to bring their own equipment.

The complete course comprises 54 hours over the year. Video materials are provided after each session, allowing trainees to continue working between weekends. Free access to the training area is also provided during the sessions, under the supervision of Libellune professionals.

The training venue offers several amenities that are particularly appealing to those traveling from afar: a shared kitchen, a relaxation area, a rehearsal space, a dormitory, and camping facilities. A campervan area is also available approximately a fifteen-minute walk away. Meals are not included; participants should bring their own picnic lunch.

For those arriving by public transport, the site is accessible from Strasbourg by TER regional train, arriving at Muhlbach-sur-Bruche station. The workshop is then approximately a fifteen-minute walk from the station. The company indicates that a pick-up at the station may be possible for those with a significant amount of equipment.

This training thus constitutes a particularly complete course for people wishing to discover or deepen their knowledge of Flow Art, bola juggling, staff, double staff and fire dancing in Alsace, with an approach that combines technique, movement, creativity, improvisation, choreography and awareness of fire safety.
