By ordering this item, you will receive a jar containing 100g of titanium filings .

Titanium powder (or titanium filings) creates a large sparking effect in the flames of your fire equipment . When the fire equipment is set in motion, sparks appear in addition to the regular flame. These sparks are much larger when you strike your equipment together (for example, against each other).

How to use titanium filings?

First, soak your wicks with the same fuel you normally use. Then, take some titanium filings and sprinkle the powder onto your wicks, much like you would sprinkle salt on your meal.

Use a dry container to collect the excess powder that has not been "absorbed" by the Kevlar.

Light it up! Your flaming equipment will throw sparks around you as you dance :-).

Avoid contact with eyes. The powder must be kept dry. Do not dip damp equipment into the powder container. The remaining powder will then be difficult or impossible to use.

Be careful of wear and tear on your Kevlar.

The use of titanium filings results in extremely rapid wear of the Kevlar bristles.

Titanium filings produce much more intense and hotter sparks than iron filings. When ignited, each particle becomes a highly energetic micro-source of combustion. If these particles become lodged in Kevlar fibers, they can burn briefly but at very high temperatures, creating particularly aggressive localized hot spots.

Kevlar begins to degrade rapidly above approximately 200°C. However, burning titanium particles far exceed this temperature. This can cause localized reddening, carbonization of the fibers, and a rapid loss of flexibility. Above approximately 300°C, Kevlar can burn and disintegrate: the fibers become brittle, fragment, and lose their ability to absorb fuel.

Unlike typical gradual wear, damage to titanium can be sudden and invisible on the surface after cooling. A wick may appear visually sound but be weakened internally, with a partially burned core. During subsequent use, this can lead to sudden crumbling, hollowing of the wick, or the loss of glowing fragments.

We highly recommend:

  • To reserve specific strands exclusively for titanium effects.
  • To use a very moderate amount of filings.
  • Carefully inspect your strands after each use (hardened areas, hollows, brittle fibers).
  • Replace immediately any wick showing signs of weakening.

Titanium filings offer a spectacular effect, but their thermal intensity can significantly reduce the lifespan of your Kevlar if used frequently or in excessive quantities.

With titanium powder, the effect is more impressive than that which you can obtain with iron filings.

      Re: iron or titanium powder

Titanium filings produce much larger sparks than iron filings. Whether or not I can describe the difference depends on the size of your wick, how you sprinkle, and many other factors!
