100g iron powder

By ordering this item, you will receive a jar containing 100g of iron filings.
Iron powder (or iron filings) creates a sparking effect on the flames of your fire equipment . When the fire equipment is set in motion, small sparks appear in addition to the regular flame. These sparks become much larger when you strike your accessories together (for example, against each other) .
How to use iron filings?
First, soak your wicks with the same fuel you normally use. Then, take some iron filings and sprinkle the powder onto your wicks, much like you would sprinkle salt on your meal.
Use a dry container to collect the excess powder that has not been "absorbed" by the Kevlar.
Light it up! Your flaming equipment will throw sparks around you as you dance :-).
Be careful of wear and tear on your Kevlar.
The use of iron filings can greatly accelerate the wear of Kevlar bristles.
When metal filings are sprinkled onto a soaked wick and then lit, the iron particles can become embedded in the Kevlar fibers. Flat, coiled wicks are almost unaffected, but assemblies made from knotted cords are more likely to absorb the filings. When heated to a high temperature, these particles become incandescent: they glow red, retain heat, and act like numerous micro-embers directly within the wick.
Kevlar begins to degrade rapidly above approximately 200°C. If particles remain trapped within the fiber, they can create localized hot spots far exceeding this temperature. This results in abnormal reddening of the strand, stiffening of the fibers, and then progressive crumbling. Above approximately 300°C, Kevlar can begin to burn and disintegrate.
In practical terms, a wick may appear intact on the surface but be weakened internally: brittle fibers, loss of density, decreased fuel absorption capacity. In the most severe cases, the wick may hollow out, puncture, or lose pieces during use.
We recommend:
- To limit the amount of filings used (without excess).
- To favour use with flat, wrapped strands, and reserve certain strands specifically for sparkle effects.
- Visually check your strands after each use (reddened areas, hard or brittle fibers).
- Avoid using metal filings in every session to preserve the lifespan of your equipment.
Iron filings offer a spectacular effect, but if used incorrectly or too frequently, they can cause premature and irreversible wear of your Kevlar.
Avoid contact with eyes. The powder must be kept dry. Do not dip damp equipment into the powder container. The remaining powder will then be difficult or impossible to use.
