Aerial hoop:

The simplicity of setting up aerial hoops makes them a popular circus apparatus. The model shown here is versatile thanks to the different types of attachments available. It can be set up attached to the end of a rope. It can also be used with a swivel to allow 360° rotation or used in a swinging position with an attachment point on each side.

What diameter aerial hoop should I choose?

The diameter of your aerial hoop is chosen according to your height. When you're sitting on the hoop, there should be 10cm of clearance above your head. You can take this measurement while sitting on a chair (e.g., if the height between the chair and your head is 70cm, then you'll need an aerial hoop with an inner diameter of 80cm). If you're buying for a circus school where several people will be using the same hoop, this clearance can vary slightly and be up to 15cm.

With this method, you'll be sure not to hit your head on the top of the hoop when you're seated. If you're teaching students of varying heights, remember to check that they can't bump their heads before you start :-).

A man, seen from behind, is suspended from an aerial hoop, with markings indicating the hoop's inner and outer dimensions. He is wearing a black tank top and shorts, and is in a hanging position with one leg raised.

On our website, for all aerial hoops, we will always refer to the outside diameter.

NetJuggler's review of the aerial hoop:

Made in Italy by Play , we decided to offer you this model because, on the market, it is the model that offers the most complete certificates for any use in a professional environment.

Technical specifications:

  • Outer diameter: 95 cm.
  • Inner diameter: 90cm.
  • Tube diameter: 2.5cm.
  • Weight: 4.5kg.
  • Type of use: static or swinging. 360° rotation with a swivel mount (not supplied).
  • Certificates and tests carried out by up to 2 people on the approved device at the same time.
  • The structure is made of tubular steel with a diameter of 25 mm and a thickness of 2.75 mm.
  • This model is also available in diameters of 80, 85, 90, 100 and 110cm.
  • Anti-corrosion treatment.

Adhesive tape coating:

The hoop comes ready to be covered with fabric grip tape. We recommend the Stretchy Tape available on our website. This grip tape is unique in that it doesn't leave any glue residue on your hands or body, even after intensive use of the hoop.

Guide to hitting an aerial hoop

Attachment system:

One ring is sold individually. You will need to purchase the aerial hoop attachments separately. Use one attachment for static use and/or two attachments for swinging. The frame has three holes (visible in the photos); depending on your setup, the spacing will be either 50cm or 55cm. We have included some example photos of attachments.

If you use a single hook, it is possible that the hoop may rotate slightly on itself (even if you do not use a pivot), to prevent this, fix it at two points.

What are the conditions for installing an aerial hoop?

We need height!

To install a hoop, you'll need a minimum ceiling height of 4 meters. The hoop itself won't necessarily be 4 meters high, but you'll need sufficient clearance both above and below it. Any installation with less than 4 meters of clearance will lead to frustration and severely limit the use of the equipment. Imagine yourself hanging from the hoop; you need significant space below it. Now imagine yourself standing on the bottom of the hoop; you also need space above you. Adding a swinging motion to the hoop requires even more space. Without the necessary clearance, you'll end up with a hoop that functions much like a seesaw.

Dynamic vs. static:

Remember that a moving body can weigh up to three times the mass of a stationary body. When you're on an aerial hoop, you're a moving body. A harness that can withstand your mass when stationary (static) won't be sufficient.

Installation at your home as a private individual:

Your life, or your child's life, will depend on a hoop. Don't neglect its installation.

Securing an aerial hoop is not something to be improvised. Consult a rigging specialist, an architect, or even a mason. In our discussions with some novice clients, they suggest using punching bag mounting plates. These plates are designed to hold 30 to 50 kg to the ceiling. The mass of a person in motion (dynamic) can be up to three times their mass in a static position. Never use this type of plate; an accident is guaranteed. Every building has its own unique structure, with its own specific strengths and materials. One of the best solutions, requiring the least technical expertise, is to use a ring sewn around a substantial beam. Again, consult a specialist.

Fixation in a professional setting:

Do not install anchor points without having a study and installation carried out by professionals.

Information on returns and exchanges of aerial hoops

We have noticed that many customers order aerial hoops without taking the time to read the description or advice on choosing the right size.

In case of a sizing error, you will be responsible for all return and shipping costs for a replacement hoop. Please note that these costs can be high, as an airline hoop exceeds standard carrier dimensions.

To avoid any inconvenience, please don't hesitate to contact us before your purchase if you have any questions. Our team is easily reachable by phone (which is rare these days!) , and we'll be happy to advise you.

  1. Answer
    Hoop weight

Hello, how much does this hoop with an internal diameter of 90cm weigh?

Is it possible to order it with a 2mm blade instead of 2.75 so that the hoop is lighter? Are there hoops that are a little thinner to grip (22mm instead of 25mm for example?) Thank you for your feedback

ATTACHING A HOOP TO A GANTRY

Hello, my daughter wants to buy a hoop to put on our 4m swing set. There is already a ring, but what attachment should I buy to put it on the swing set ring? We will put a strap on the hoop so she doesn't hurt her foot. The hoop will be 95mm.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hoop or fabric

    Good morning,

I'm a PE teacher, and for my circus arts classes in high school, I'd like to replace one of my old climbing ropes with either an aerial hoop or a fabric. What do you think, given that I'm a beginner myself?

The fabric is also clearly cheaper, but the aerial hoop seems easier to me to start with. Is that the case?

      Re: Hoop or fabrics

The two disciplines are very different; the difficulties and approach to each are not the same. The technique is also not the same. If you are a beginner, I invite you to train yourself in the disciplines before teaching them or calling on a professional instructor.

Aerial flying is a risky activity that requires knowledge of safety, both in terms of setting up the equipment and in the practice itself.

I invite you to contact us by phone; we can advise you better than we can by text! Our contact information is at the top of the site. We may be able to put you in touch with professional speakers or redirect you to a structure that provides training based on your geographical location.
