Aerial Hoop:

The ease of setting up aerial hoops makes them a popular circus device. The model presented here is versatile thanks to the different types of attachments available. It can be set up, attached to the end of a rope. It can also be used with a swivel to allow 360° rotation or used swinging with an attachment on each side.

What diameter aerial hoop should I choose?

The diameter of your aerial hoop is chosen according to your height. When you sit on the hoop, there should be 10cm of flapping space above your head. You can measure this by sitting on a chair (e.g., height between the chair and your head = 70cm, so you will need an aerial hoop with an internal diameter of 80cm). If you are buying for a circus school where several people will be using the same hoop, this space may vary slightly and extend up to 15cm.

With this method you will be sure not to hit your head on the top of the hoop when you are sitting. If you are teaching students of varying heights, remember to check that they cannot hit their heads before you begin :-).

A man, seen from behind, hangs from an aerial hoop, with markings indicating the hoop's inner and outer dimensions. He is wearing a black tank top and shorts, and is in a hanging position with one leg raised.

On our site for all aerial hoops we will always talk to you about the outside diameter.

NetJuggler's opinion on the aerial hoop:

Made in Italy by Play , we have decided to offer you this model because, on the market, it is the model that offers the most complete certificates for any use in a professional environment.

Technical characteristics:

  • Outer diameter: 95 cm.
  • Inner diameter: 90cm.
  • Tube diameter: 2.5cm.
  • Type of use: static or swinging. 360° rotation with a pivot attachment (not supplied).
  • Certificates and tests carried out by up to 2 people on the agreement at the same time.
  • The structure is made of tubular steel with a diameter of 25 mm and a thickness of 2.75 mm.
  • This model is also available in diameters 80, 85, 90, 100 and 110cm.
  • Anti-corrosion treatment.

Adhesive tape covering:

The hoop comes ready to be covered with fabric grip tape. We recommend the Stretchy Tape available on our website. This grip tape has the particularity of not releasing adhesive residue on the hands and body, even after intensive use of the hoop.

Guide to Hitting an Aerial Hoop

Attachment system:

One ring is sold individually. You will need to purchase the aerial hoop attachments separately. Use one attachment for static use and/or use two attachments for swinging use. The structure has three holes (visible in the photos), depending on your setup, the distance will be either 50cm or 55cm. We have included some photos of attachment examples.

If you use a single hook, it is possible that the hoop will pivot slightly on itself (even if you do not use a pivot), to compensate for this, fix it at two points.

What are the conditions for installing an aerial hoop?

You need height!

To install a hoop, you'll need a ceiling height of at least 4 meters. The hoop won't necessarily be 4 meters high, but you'll need height above and below the hoop. Any installation with a height lower than 4 meters will cause frustration and very limited use of the apparatus. Imagine yourself hanging from the hoop; you need plenty of space below it. Now imagine yourself standing on the bottom of the hoop; you also need space above you. With a swinging motion on the hoop, you'll need even more space. Without the necessary space, you'll end up with a hoop that will have a role similar to that of a swing.

Dynamic vs. static:

Remember that a moving body can weigh up to 3 times the mass of a static body. When you're on an aerial hoop, you're a moving body. A fixture that will support your stationary (static) mass won't be enough.

Fixing at your home as an individual:

Your life or your child's life is about to end up on a hoop. Don't neglect its installation.

An aerial hoop attachment cannot be improvised. Consult a specialist rigger or an architect, or seek the advice of a mason. During our discussions with some novice clients, we are told to use punching bag attachment plates. These attachments are designed to attach 30 to 50 kg to the ceiling. The mass of a person in motion (dynamic) can be up to 3 times their mass in a static position. Never use this type of plate; an accident would be guaranteed. Each building has a different structure, with its own specific strengths and materials. One of the best solutions, which requires the least technical expertise, is to use a ring sewn around a large beam. Here again, consult a specialist.

Fixation in the professional environment:

Do not install anchor points without having a study and installation carried out by professionals.

Information on returns and exchanges for aerial hoops

We find that many customers order aerial hoops without taking the time to read the description or the tips for choosing the right size.

In the event of a size error, you will be responsible for the return and shipping costs for a new hoop. Please note that these costs can be high, as an aerial hoop exceeds the standard dimensions of the carriers.

To avoid any inconvenience, please do not hesitate to contact us before your purchase if you have any doubts. Our team is easily reachable by phone (which is rare these days!) , and we will be happy to advise you.

  1. Answer
    Hoop weight

Hello, how much does this hoop with an internal diameter of 90cm weigh?

Is it possible to order it with a 2mm blade instead of 2.75 so that the hoop is lighter? Are there hoops that are a little thinner to grip (22mm instead of 25mm for example?) Thank you for your feedback

ATTACHING A HOOP TO A GANTRY

Hello, my daughter wants to buy a hoop to put on our 4m swing set. There is already a ring, but what attachment should I buy to put it on the swing set ring? We will put a strap on the hoop so she doesn't hurt her foot. The hoop will be 95mm.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hoop or fabric

    Good morning,

I'm a PE teacher, and for my circus arts classes in high school, I'd like to replace one of my old climbing ropes with either an aerial hoop or a fabric. What do you think, given that I'm a beginner myself?

The fabric is also clearly cheaper, but the aerial hoop seems easier to me to start with. Is that the case?

      Re: Hoop or fabrics

The two disciplines are very different; the difficulties and approach to each are not the same. The technique is also not the same. If you are a beginner, I invite you to train yourself in the disciplines before teaching them or calling on a professional instructor.

Aerial flying is a risky activity that requires knowledge of safety, both in terms of setting up the equipment and in the practice itself.

I invite you to contact us by phone; we can advise you better than we can by text! Our contact information is at the top of the site. We may be able to put you in touch with professional speakers or redirect you to a structure that provides training based on your geographical location.
