The Mexican Star is sold complete, with its 8 fire branches, handling handle, screws, and assembly wrenches. Two sizes are available: 120 cm or 150 cm.

Mexican Star:

The Mexican Star is a spectacular fire apparatus designed for experienced artists and professional performances. Its star shape creates a striking visual presence on stage, with wide lines of flame ideal for a show finale.

Widely used by Mexican fire artists in the 2000s, this structure is primarily manipulated using techniques similar to staff spinning. The 150 cm version offers greater range of motion and also allows for the exploration of certain contact staff movements or passages where the artist enters the star.

This product is intended for experienced users. It requires space, good mastery of fire equipment, and rigorous preparation before each use.

NetJuggler's review of Mexican Star:

The Mexican Star is a rare, highly visual prop designed to create a powerful stage effect. Its main appeal lies not in the number of possible poses, but in the immediate impact it has on the audience. The star's shape naturally dictates the plane of rotation, which limits certain technical variations but makes the movements easier to visualize. The 120 cm version will be easier to handle, while the 150 cm version is better suited to performers seeking maximum stage presence and more possibilities for contact.

Technical specifications:

  • Two sizes available: 120 cm and 150 cm.
  • Diagonal version 120 cm: approximately 170 cm.
  • Diagonal version 150 cm: approximately 212 cm.
  • Weight 120 cm version: approximately 3.05 kg.
  • Weight 150 cm version: approximately 3.8 kg.
  • Structure: 7075 Ergal aluminum tube 15 x 1 mm.
  • Wicks: tubular kevlar.
  • Central handle with Gora grip.
  • Rapid connection system to the star's peaks.
  • Assembly with screws and wing nuts.
  • Manufacturer: Gora.

Package contents:

  • 8 fire branches with tubular Kevlar.
  • 1 handling handle with grip.
  • 8 screws with wing nuts for the connection points.
  • 2 screws to fix the central handle.
  • 2 Allen keys.

Mexican Star montage:

The assembly involves joining the 8 points into two squares, then overlapping these two squares at a 45-degree angle to form the star. Two points have a hole in the center: they must be placed opposite each other to receive the handling handle.

The 8 connection points are secured with the provided screws and wing nuts. The system allows for faster assembly than a traditional structure, while remaining demountable for transport.

Quick connection system:

At the summit of the Mexican Star, Gora uses a quick-connect system that allows two connected sides to be attached and released with a simple press. This principle saves time during assembly and disassembly, especially since the star has 8 connection points.

As with any mechanical system, the connections must be handled cleanly, without forcing them, and each point must be checked before ignition.

For what type of practice?

  • Experienced users to professionals only.
  • Fire shows, visual finales, stage acts and outdoor performances.
  • This practice is similar to staff spinning, with a rotation plan imposed by the structure.
  • 120cm version: more maneuverable and more compact.
  • 150cm version: more spectacular, more spacious, suitable for artists with space and experience.

Gora is a manufacturer specializing in fire juggling equipment and manipulation props for flow artists. The brand is known for its original accessories, robust construction, and experience in designing stage equipment for fire performers.

Optional complementary products:

To fully utilize this Mexican Star, we recommend using appropriate protective gear such as Kevlar gloves and a Kevlar hat . You can also find our selection of fire-making equipment , our dedicated page for Kevlar wicks , and parts and accessories for fire-making equipment .

Fire safety : The Mexican Star is a large fire apparatus intended for trained performers only. Never use it without a clear area, a safety officer, a fire extinguisher, or a fire blanket nearby. Never place the star on the ground while it is burning, even briefly: this can quickly damage the Kevlar.

Precautions for use:

  • Do not use indoors without authorization, ventilation and professional supervision.
  • Do not hit, bend, crush or throw the star against a hard surface.
  • In case of throwing, plan for a controlled landing: the apparatus is not designed to withstand heavy falls.
  • Do not use in a hot and humid environment if the area near the hands becomes too hot.
  • Wear appropriate protective gear if necessary: gloves, mittens, long sleeves and head protection.
  • Check all connections before each use.
  • Wait until completely cooled before disassembling or storing.

Tips for soaking and lighting the Mexican Star:

To prime the Kevlar, place the assembled star on the ground while it's still cold, then apply the fuel to the Kevlar sections using a suitable bottle. Since the star has many ignition points, a Zippo-type lighter fluid or white gas can be used just before the show for a more spectacular start. This fluid evaporates quickly and is not a substitute for the fuel normally used for Kevlar wicks.

Instructions and safety:

Before use, we recommend that you carefully read the safety instructions related to the fire equipment. This Mexican Star is a professional accessory: it must only be used by trained personnel, in a suitable environment, with a clear safety protocol.

What size should I choose?

The 120 cm version is the more accessible of the two: it remains highly spectacular while being easier to transport and handle. The 150 cm version is aimed at artists who want maximum visual impact, with a diagonal of approximately 212 cm and greater possibilities for body manipulation and touch.
